One of the things I really hate about politics today is how we use 9/11 and the links between major Middle Eastern states and terrorism for political convenience. While Trump’s defense of MBS and the Saudi government’s murder of a journalist is uniquely disgusting, this general embrace of Saudi Arabia or willingness to meet with Al-Qaeda has been the default position of the United States for years now. Fox News and other right-wing media outlets did the same screeching during Biden’s term. Geopolitics is a nuanced and difficult thing, and we cannot be openly hostile toward the leaders of other nations that we might need to work with.
