People who did horrible shit get released from prison all the time without you ever knowing. One day Anthony will too. I’d prefer it if he took some philosophy courses or learned how to do a trade rather than trafficked drugs under the radar for 20 years.

Yes we are aware of the issues in our “justice” system. Taking the life of another intentionally should end your freedom forever.
 
It’s a pretty easy thing to not kill someone right?

Doesn’t seem like a high bar to set for one’s freedom.

So I happen to have extended family members who have ran prisons and had other jobs high up in them. The consensus is that not one inmate leaves less dangerous than they arrived. It’s just not that kind of environment. I agree with the sentiment of what you’re saying. The problem is that you’re calling prison a correctional facility and it’s not. It’s a detention center, or a long term punishment facility, but no rehabbing or correcting is going on. The only hope for those excons to be less of a danger is the deterrent of not wanting to return.

For what it’s worth, I understand this point. It’s part of what frustrates me with the attitude of seeing any positive steps being taken as a sign of malfeasance. In my mind, the solution is to overhaul the prison system so that those who have paid their debt to society are more set up for success after their incarceration. Education and skill acquisition is a huge part of that. So by itself, Karmelo Anthony taking college courses is a good thing. We should focus on bettering conditions inside prisons and actually rehabilitating people. It will cost money, but the extreme rates of recidivism suggest we could do something much differently.

Part of that is an understanding by the left that it’s not racist or unfair to enforce laws and we can’t actually excuse crime on that basis. I also think while excessive cash bail is a scourge, that certain crimes/criminals should be locked up until trial. If we could do better to make the pre-trial process faster and incarceration process more focused on a successful rest of their lives, we could reduce a lot of criminality.

Ive always assumed that if I had murdered someone, no American university would admit me as a student. So I tried to abstain from murdering people so I could pursue the American dream

What i know now is that if I murdered a white guy I would have actually been accepted to Harvard (they rejected me 18 years ago)

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the institution he’s getting college credit from in prison is like a half-ass community college. He’s not getting a free trip to the Ivy Leagues.
