I don't watch much standup but there was enough outcry about this that I watched The Closer last night. It was funny, but didn't clear it up for me. Chappelle was pretty clear that it's not the trans people he has an issue with, it's the oppressive tendencies and people within the trans movement. People and attitudes like this.

I'll tack on that it's encouraging to see someone like Chappelle who is respected on the left speaking so forcefully about this. And that there's nothing anyone can say or do that will make me refer to the person in the picture as a she.
 
Loved the special. Chapels however is sadly misinformed about the Israeli/Palestinian dispute.

Still find him hysterical though.
 
Yeah there was plenty I disagreed with him on but I still enjoyed it. I laugh at the idea of transphobia being some people's takeaway. He was explicitly more critical of other groups, many of whom were laughing in the audience.
 
Is it not weird that this become such part of the institutional narrative? Normal people don't like this
