April 21st:

1898: Pitcher Bill Duggleby of the Philadelphia Nationals hits a grand slam in his first at bat. That feat would not happen again until Jeremy Hermida on August 31, 2005.

1961: The Minnesota Twins, relocated from Washington, lose their first game in Minneapolis 5-3 to the new Senators.

1966: The Phillies acquire Larry Jackson and Bob Buhl from the Cubs for Fergie Jenkins, Adolfo Phillips, and John Herrnstein.

1972: The Rangers defeat the Angels 7-3 in their first game at Arlington.

1989: A group including future President George W. Bush purchases the Texas Rangers for $89 million.

1994: In the Indians 10-6 win over the Twins, Eddie Murray breaks Mickey Mantle's M.L. record by homering fro both sides of the plate for the 11th time.

2012: The White Sox Phillip Humber pitches a perfect game in a 4-0 win over the Mariners.
 
April 22nd:

1876: The Boston Red Caps defeat the A's 6-5 in Philadelphia in the first National League game.

1903: The New York Highlanders (later known as the Yankees) lose their first game 3-1 to Washington.

1914: In his first professional game, Babe Ruth pitches a shutout in Baltimore's 6-0 win over Providence in an International League game.

1970: In the Mets 2-1 win over the Padres, Tom Seaver ties a M.L. record with 19 strikeouts.

1988: The Twins trade Tom Brunasky to the Cardinals for Tommy Herr.

1993: The Mariners Chris Bosio pitches a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over the Red Sox.

2000: With homers by Mark McGwire and Fernando Tatis, the Cardinals have 42 home runs for April, setting anew N.L. record.

2008: The Braves John Smoltz records his 3,000th strikeout.
 
April 23rd:

1903: The New York Highlanders defeat Washington 7-2 for their first win.

1921: Hall of Famer Warren Spahn is born in Buffalo, New York.

1952: Both the Indians Bob Feller and the Brown Bob Cain pitch a one-hitter, with St. Louis getting the 2-1 win.

1954: Hank Aaron hits his first M.L. home run.

1962: In their tenth try, the Mets win their first game, defeating the Pirates 9-1.

1978: Joe Morgan's M.L. record for second basemen 91 game errorless streak ends.

1999: In the third inning against the Dodgers, Fernando Tatis becomes the first player in M.L. history to hit two grand slams in the same inning.

2000: In the Yankees 10-7 win over the Blue Jays, Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada become the first teammates in M.L history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game.

2006: SportsNet New York reprimands analyst Keith Hernandez after making comments about a female in full uniform in the Padres dugout during a broadcast. After spotting the Padres massage therapist Kelly Calabrese, Hernandez remarked that women don't belong in the dugout. Hernandez would apologize for his comments.

2008: With a 7-6 victory over the Rockies, the Cubs join the Giants as the only teams in M.L. history with 10,000 wins.

2010: The Rays and Ben Zobrist agree to a three year extension worth $18 million.

2013: In the Braves 10-2 win over the Rockies, B.J. and Justin Upton become the first brother since the Pirates Lloyd and Paul Waner in 1938 to hit back to back home runs.

2014: Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda is ejected from a game against the Red Sox after pine tar is discovered on his neck.
 
April 24th:

1901: In the first American League game played, the Chicago White Sox defeat the Cleveland Blues 8-2.

1917: The Yankees George Mogridge pitches a no-hitter in a 2-1 win over the Red Sox.

1945: The owners by unanimous vote elect U.S. Senator Happy Chandler to replace Kenesaw Mountain Landis as commissioner.

1965: Casey Stengel records his 3,000th managerial win in the Mets 6-5 victory over the Giants.

1987: In the Yankees 6-5 loss to the Indians, Rickey Henderson becomes the first player in M.L. history to homer off two 300 game winners in M.L. history, homering off Phil Niekro and Steve Carlton.

1901: The A's lose 5-1 to the Senators in their A.L. debut.

1902: Future Hall of Famer Addie Joss makes his M.L. debut, pitching a one-hitter in Cleveland's 3-0 win over the Browns.

1904: Ty Cobb makes his professional debut, hitting a double for Augusta in the South Atlantic League.

1941: Wrigley Field becomes the first to use an organ.

1959: Playing for the Youmiuri Giants of Japan's Central League, Sadaharu Oh hits the first of his 868 home runs.

1961: Roger Maris hits his first home run of the season in the Yankees 13-11 win over the Tigers.

1980: In the Phllies 7-0 win over the Cardinals, Steve Carlton pitches his sixth one-hitter, setting a new N.L. record.

1982: For the second time, Gene Michael is named Yankees manager.

1990: In the Rangers 1-0 win over the White Sox, Nolan Ryan ties Bob Feller's M.L. record with his 12th career one-hitter.

1995: The Rockies defeat the Mets in 14 innings in Coors Field's debut.

1997: In the Cubs 7-6 win over the Pirates, Ryne Sandberg hits his 267th home run, breaking Joe Morgan's record for second basemen.

2002: The Rockies fire manager Buddy Bell, replacing him with hitting coach Clint Hurdle.

2006: Mike Piazza hits his 400th home run.

1896: Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby is born in Winters, Texas.

1944: The Braves Jim Tobin pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Dodgers.

1947: The Yankees hold a celebration for the ailing Babe Ruth. 58,000 fans attend the ceremony.

1961: The Angels lose to the Twins 4-2 in their first game at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles. In his final appearance at a ballpark, Ty Cobb throws out the ceremonial first pitch.

1968: The Orioles Tom Phoebus pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Red Sox.

1971: Hank Aaron hits his 600th career home run.

1972: The Padres fire manager Preston Gomez and replace him with third base coach Don Zimmer.

1973: The Royals Steve Busby pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Tigers.

1983: With a strikeout of the Expos Brad Mills, Nolan Ryan records strikeout #3,509, breaking Walter Johnson's all time record.

1994: The Twins Scott Erickson pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Brewers.

2002: The Red Sox Derek Lowe pitches a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over the Devil Rays.

2003: The Phillies Kevin Millwood pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Giants.

2004: Mike Piazza hits his 351st career home run as a catcher, tying Carlton Fisk's record.
 
April 28th:

1901: White Sox pitcher Bock Baker sets a M.L. record by allowing 23 hits, all singles, in a 13-1 loss to the Cleveland Blues.

1961: The Braves Warren Spahn pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Giants. At age 40, Spahn is the second oldest (Cy Young) to pitch a no-hitter.

1964: Hall of Famer Barry Larkin is born in Cincinnati, Ohio.

1985: Billy Martin becomes Yankees manager for the fourth time, replacing the fired Yogi Berra.

1988: With a 4-2 loss to the Twins, the Orioles extend their losing streak to an A.L. record 21 games. The 0-21 start for the season is the worst in M.L. history.

1998: The Rangers Juan Gonzalez sets a M.L. record for April with 35 RBIs.

2010: The Phillies and Ryan Howard agree to a five year extension worth $125 million.

2012: Bryce Harper makes his M.L. debut, doubling and hitting a sac fly in the Nationals 4-3 loss to the Dodgers.
 
April 29th:

1922: The Giants hit four inside-the-park home runs in a 15-4 win over the Braves.

1931: The Indians Wes Ferrell pitches a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over the Browns.

1934: Hall of Famer Luis Aparaicio is born in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

1939: Lou Gehrig records the last of his 2,721 career hits.

1960: Stan Musial plays his 1,000th game at first base, making him the first in M.L. history to play that many games at two different positions. He also played 1,513 games in the outfield.

1981: Steve Carlton becomes the sixth pitcher in M.L. history to record 3,000 strikeouts.

1986: In the Red Sox 3-1 win over the Mariners, Roger Clemens becomes the first pitcher in M.L. history to strike out 20 batters in a nine inning game.

1988: After 21 straight losses to start the season, the Orioles beat the White Sox 9-0 to finally record their first win of the season.

1996: The Mets John Franco becomes the first lefty to record 300 saves.

2000: After losing the first six, the Giants defeat the Expos 2-1 to record their first win at Pacific Bell Park.

2007: The Padres Trevor Hoffman appears in his 803rd game with the club, setting a M.L. record for games pitched with one team.
 
April 30th:

1887: The Pittsburgh Alleghenys, later known as the Pirates, defeat the Chicago White Stockings 6-2 in their first N.L. game.

1922: The White Sox Charlie Robertson pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Tigers.

1939: In final game of his career, Lou Gehrig goes 0-4 in the Yankees 3-2 loss to the Senators. It was the last of his 2,130 straight games, marking the end of his streak, a M.L. record until 1995, when broken by Cal Ripken, Jr.

1940: The Dodgers James Carleton pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Reds.

1946: The Indians Bob Feller pitches his second career no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Yankees.

1961: Willie Mays hits four home runs in the Giants 14-4 win over the Braves.

1969: The Reds Jim Maloney pitches a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over the Astros.

1970: The Cubs Billy Williams becomes the first player in N.L. history to play in 1,000 straight games.

1989: The Blue Jays trade outfielder Jesse Barfield to the Yankees for pitcher Al Leiter.
