1888: At the Philadelphia State Fairgrounds Building, the Downtowners beat the Uptwoners 6-1 in the first ever baseball game played indoors.

1927: Hall of Famer Nellie Fox is born in St. Thomas, Pennsylvania.

1958: Hall of Famer and all-tim stolen base leader Rickey Henderson is born in Chicago.

1989: Billy Martin dies in an automobile crash near Binghamton, New York. He was 61 years old.
 
December 26th:

1919: The Yankees buy Babe Ruth from the Red Sox for $100,000 and guarantees a $300,000 loan with Fenway Park as collateral.

1950: Commissioner Happy Chandler announces the Gillette Razor Company has purchased TV rights to the All Star Game for six seasons at $6 million.

2001: The Angels sign Aaron Sele to a three year deal/

2008: At age 45, Randy Johnson signs a one year deal worth $8 million with the Giants.
 
December 27th:

1984: The Yankees sign pitcher Ed Whitson to a five year deal worth $4.4 million.

2001: The Mets acquire first baseman Mo Vaughn.

2004: The Giants sign outfielder Moises Alou to a one year deal.

2013: The Rangers sign outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to a seven year deal worth $130 million.
 
December 30th:

1926: According to The Chicago Tribune, the 1917 Tigers had thrown a four game series against the White Sox, helping Chicago win the pennant. Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis opens an investigation into the matter within a week.

1935: Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax is born in Brooklyn, New York.

2002: Rogers Clemens agrees to a one year deal worth $10.1 million with the Yankees.
 
December 31st:

1897: Charles Ebbets gains controlling interest in the Brooklyn Dodgers.

1966: The Braves trade Eddie Mathews, Sandy Alomar, and Arnie Umbach to the Astros for Dave Nicholson and Bob Bruce. In his Hall of Fame career, Mathews is the only player in Braves history to play for the team in Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.

1974: Catfish Hunter signs a five year deal with the Yankees worth $3.75 million.

2009: The Cubs sign Marlon Byrd to a three year deal worth $15 million.
