1936: Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson are announced as the first players elected to the Hall of Fame. They won't be enshrined until 1939, when the Hall of Fame and Museum is built in Cooperstown, New York.
1957: With the start of coast to coast travel, MLB considers creating a pool for a player pool that would be used in the event of a plane crash.
1958: Stan Musial signs a deal worth $100,000 with the Cardinals, the first six figure contract in baseball history.
1958: Roy Campanella is involved in a car crash on Long Island, breaking his neck. He will be paralyzed for the rest of his life.
1967: The Veterans Committee elects Branch Rickey and Lloyd Waner to the Hall of Fame.
1988: The Dodgers sign Kirk Gibson to a three year deal.
1995: In Super Bowl XXIX, Deion Sanders plays for the San Francisco 49ers, becoming the first player to appear in both a Super Bowl and World Series. In 1992, Sanders played for the Braves in the World Series.
2002: The Astros sign Lance Berkman to a three year deal worth $10.5 million.
2006: The Padres and Mike Piazza agree to a one year deal.
