1912: Ty Cobb goes 1-4 for the Tigers against the Senators, giving him a ML record 68 hits in a month.

1932: The Indians lose to the A's 1-0 in the first game at Lakeside Stadium, later known as Municipal Stadium.

1954: The Braves Joe Adcock hits four home runs in a 15-7 victory over the Dodgers.

1981: The owners and players agree on a new pooling system for free agent compensation, ending the 50 day strike.

1983: Brooks Robinson, Juan Marichal, George Kell, and Walter Alston are inducted into the Hall of Fame.

1989: The Twins trade Frank Viola to the Mets for Kevin Tapani, Rick Aguilera, Tim Drummond, Jack Savage, and David West.

1990: Nolan Ryan records his 300th win.

1995: The Mets trade Bret Saberhagen and minor leaguer Dave Swanson to the Rockies for Juan Acevedo and Arnold Gooch.

1996: The Tigers trade Cecil Fielder to the Yankees for Ruben Sierra and minor leaguer Matt Drews.

1997: The Red Sox trade Heathcliff Slocumb to the Mariners for Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe.

1997: The A's trade Mark McGwire to the Cardinals for pitchers Blake Stein, Eric Ludwick, and T.J. Mathews.

2003: The Braves John Smoltz becomes the fastest reliever to record 40 saves in a season.

2004: The long anticipated trade of Nomar Garciaparra is finally accomplished when the Red Sox shortstop is traded to the Cubs as part of a four-team deal which includes the Twins and Expos. Boston acquires shortstop Orlando Cabrera (Expos) and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz (Twins) with Nomar, prospect Matt Murton and cash to Chicago, which had shipped minor league southpaw Justin Jones to the Minnesota for Mientkiewicz, who in turn is sent along with Cubs' shortstop Alex Gonzalez, relief pitcher Francis Beltran, and minor leaguer Brendan Harris to Beantown, which sends the trio of Gonzalez, Beltran, and Harris to the Expos for Cabrera. 2004: The Diamondbacks trade Steve Finley and Brent Mayne to the Dodgers for Koyie Hill, Reggie Abercrombie, and Bill Murphy.

2005: Wade Boggs, Ryne Sandberg, Jerry Coleman, and Peter Gammons are inducted into the Hall of Fame.

2006: The Cubs trade Greg Maddux to the Dodgers for Cesar Izurtis.

2007: The Rangers trade Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay to the Braves for Jarrod Saltalamacchia along with minor leaguers Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz, and Beau Jones (editorial note: Barf).

2008: The Reds trade Ken Griffey Jr to the White Sox for Nick Masset and minor leaguer Danny Richar.

2008: In a three-team swap, the much anticipated departure of Manny Ramirez from Beantown is finally accomplished with the unhappy outfielder being traded to the Dodgers. Former Pirates player Jason Bay will now roam left field for the Red Sox, with Pittsburgh receiving outfielder Brandon Moss and pitcher Craig Hansen from Boston as well as getting third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from Los Angeles to complete the last-minute trading deadline deal. 2011: The Astros trade Michael Bourn to the Braves for four players.

2011: The Braves join the Phillies as the only teams in ML history with 10,000 losses.
