June 21st:

1916: The Red Sox Rube Foster pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Highlanders.

1951: Former Indians owner Bill Veeck purchases controlling interest in the Browns.

1960: Richie Ashburn plays his first game in Philadelphia since being traded from the Phillies to the Cubs. He goes 1-6 in a loss to his former team.

1964: The Phillies Jim Bunning pitches a perfect game in a 6-0 win over the Mets. Gus Triandos becomes the first catcher to be behind the plate for a no-hitter in both leagues.

1989: In the White Sox 7-3 win over the Yankees, Carlton Fisk hits his 307th home run as a catcher, breaking Yogi Berra's A.L. record.

1998: The Dodgers fire manager Bill Russell and replace him with Glenn Hoffman.

2005: The Reds fire manager Dave Miley and replace him with former Rangers skipper Jerry Narron.

2009: With a 12-5 Cardinals victory over the Royals, Tony La Russa records his 2,500th managerial win.
 
June 22nd:

1903: Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell is born in Carthage, Missouri.

1926: The Cardinals pick up Grover Cleveland Alexander off waivers from the Cubs.

1932: The National League approves the use of numbers on jerseys to identify players.

1941: In a 5-4 win over the Tigers, the Yankees hit a home run in their 18th straight game, breaking the M.L. record.

1944: In a game shortened to five innings, the Braves Jim Tobin holds the Phillies hitless in a 7-0 win.

1976: In the seventh inning of the Padres 4-2 win over the Giants, Randy Jones ties Christy Mathewson's N.L. record of 68 straight innings without issuing a walk. He streak ends the next inning when Marc Hill gets a leadoff walk.

1982: Pete Rose records his 3,772nd hit, passing Hank Aaron for second on the all time list.

1984: The Griffith Family officially sells the Minnesota Twins to Carl Pohlad. The family had owned the team since 1920 when they were the Washington Senators.

1987: Tom Seaver announces his retirement.

2001: The Braves trade John Rocker and minor leaguer Troy Cameron to the Indians for relievers Steve Karsay and Steve Reed along with cash.

2002: Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile is found dead in his Chicago hotel room at the age of 33. The Cardinals were scheduled to play the Cubs that afternoon in Wrigley Field, but was postponed. With his teammates behind him, the Cubs Joe Girardi announces to the crowd of the game's postponement.
 
June 23rd:

1917: After walking the first hitter, Red Sox pitcher Babe Ruth is ejected. Ernie Shore comes in relief. The leadoff batter is throw out trying to steal second base and Shore retires the next 26 hitters.

1946: In the Cubs 15-10 loss to the Giants, Eddie Waitkus and Marv Rickert hit back to back inside the park home runs in the fourth inning.

1961: Sam Mele replaces Cookie Lavagetto as the Twins manager.

1963: The Mets Jimmy Piersall celebrates his 100th career home run by circling the bases backward. He thought of the stunt after being disappointed about the lack of attention Duke Snider got for his 400th home run. Piersall would be released two days later by manager Casey Stengel.

1971: The Phillies Rick Wise pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Reds. Wise also homered twice and drove in three runs.

1973: Just twenty days after pitching his high school team to a state championship, David Clyde makes his M.L. debut with the Rangers. He pitches five innings, allows one hit, and strikes out eight as the Rangers beat the Twins 4-3.

1984: Against the Cardinals, Ryne Sandberg ties the game at 9-9 with a solo home run in the ninth inning, then ties it again in the tenth with a two out, two run homer. The Cubs win the game 12-11 in the 11th inning on a RBI single by Dave Owen.

1986: The Braves set a N.L. record by stranding 18 runners on base. Even with that, the Braves still beat the Dodgers 6-5.

2003: With a steal in the 11th inning against the Padres, Barry Bonds becomes the first player in M.L. history with 500 stolen bases and 500 home runs.

2007: During a Southern League game against the Montgomery Biscuits, pitcher Matt Elliott of the Mobile BayBears locks himself in the bathroom. He breaks the lock after he was mad about giving up the tying RBI in the ninth inning. He was stuck for 47 minutes and missed the rest of the game.

2010: The Marlins fire manager Fredi Gonzalez, bench coach Carlos Tosca, and hitting coach Jim Presley. Edwin Rodriguez, the manger of the team's AAA affiliate in New Orleans, is named interim manager.

2011: Jim Riggleman, upset about the team's lack of commitment about his future, resigns as Nationals manager.

2012: Jim Thome sets a M.L. record with his 13th walk-off home run, giving the Phillies a 7-6 win over the Rays.
 
June 24th:

1947: During the Dodgers 4-2 win over the Pirates, Jackie Robinson steals home for the first of 19 times he will do so in his career.

1950: Willie Mays makes his professional debut, playing for the Giants Class B team in Trenton.

1955: Harmon Killebrew hits the first of his 573 M.L. home runs.

1970: The Reds defeat the Giants 5-4 in the last game at Crosley Field.

1979: Rickey Henderson makes his M.L. debut. In the A's 5-1 loss to the Rangers, he singles, doubles, and steals the first of a M.L. record 1,406 bases.

1992: Yankees pitcher Steve Howe is given a lifetime ban by Commissioner Fay Vincent for repeated drug offenses. An arbitrator overturns the ban in November.

1997: In the Mariners 4-1 loss to the A's, Randy Johnson sets an A.L. record for left handed pitchers with 19 strikeouts.

2011: The Nationals name John McLaren interim manager.
 
June 25th:

1903: Boston Beaneaters pitcher Wiley Piatt goes the distance in both games of a doubleheader against the Cardinals, but lose by 1-0 and 5-3 scores.

1937: In the Cubs 11-2 win over the Dodgers, Augie Galan becomes the first player in N.L. history to homer from both sides of the plate.

1961: In the Orioles 9-8, 14 inning win over the Angels, the two teams combine to set a M.L. record by using 16 pitchers.

1968: In the Giants 9-0 win over the Dodgers, Bobby Bonds joins Bill Duggleby (1898) as the only players to hit a grand slam in his first M.L. game.

1976: The Rangers Toby Harrah becomes the first shortstop in M.L. history to play both games of a doubleheader without taking a fielding chance. The Rangers won the first game 8-4 with the White Sox taking the nightcap 14-9.

1988: Cal Ripken, Jr. plays in his 1,000th straight game, going 2-4 in the Orioles 10-3 loss to the Red Sox.

1998: In the Cubs 6-4 loss to the Tigers, Sammy Sosa hits his 19th home run for June, breaking the M.L. record for any month.

1999: The Diamondbacks Jose Jimenez pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Cardinals.

2007: Manny Parra of the Nashville Sounds pitches the eighth perfect game in Pacific Coast League history, beating the Round Rock Express 3-0.
 
June 26th:

1916: In a game against the White Sox, the Indians become the first team in M.L. history to wear numbers on their uniforms.

1924: For the first time, brothers oppose each other on the mound when Jesse Barnes and the Braves take on the Giants and younger sibling Virgil. In the Giants 11-7 win, Jesse gets the loss with Virgil getting a no decision.

1935: In a sweep over the Braves, the Pirates Lloyd Waner sets a M.L. record with 18 putouts during a doubleheader.

1938: In a 5-1 Giants victory over the Cubs, Carl Hubbell records his 200th win.

1946: Mel Ott retires as a player, deciding to focus only on being the Giants manager.

1960: Ron Santo makes his M.L. debut with the Cubs during a doubleheader against the Pirates. He goes 3-7 in the twin bill with five runs batted in.

1962: The Red Sox Earl Wilson pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Angels.

1993: Hall of Famer Roy Campanella dies at age 71.

2001: After being ejected in the seventh inning of the Pirates 7-6, 12 inning win over the Brewers, manager Lloyd McClendon picks up first base out of the ground and takes it to the dugout.

2010: The Diamondbacks Edwin Jackson pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Rays.

2011: The Nationals name senior advisor Davey Johnson as manager for the rest of the season.
 
June 27th:

1930: Nine days shy of his 47th birthday, the A's Jack Quinn becomes the oldest player in M.L. history to hit a home run.

1977: The Giants Willie McCovey becomes the first player in M.L. history to homer twice in the same inning for a second time in his career.

1980: The Dodgers Jerry Reuss pitches a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over the Giants.

1982: The Braves tie a M.L. record by turning seven double plays in a 2-0 win in 14 innings over the Reds.

1986: In a 7-6, 12 inning win over the Reds, the Giants Robby Thompson ties a M.L. record by being thrown out trying to steal four times.

1993: With a 5-3 defeat to the Cardinals, the Mets Anthony Young sets a M.L. record by losing his 24th straight decision.

1999: The Mariners defeat the Rangers 5-2 in the last game played in the Kingdome.

2002: The Indians trade Bartolo Colon to the Expos, for Lee Stevens, cash, and minor league prospects Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore, and Cliff Lee.

2010: In the third inning of the Phillies 11-2 win over the Blue Jays, Jamie Moyer allows a homer to Vernon Wells. It was the 506th allowed by Moyer, breaking the record held by Hall of Famer Robin Roberts.

2011: The Dodgers file for bankruptcy protection in a Delaware court after MLB refused to sign off on a transaction that would have provided the team with $385 million.
 
June 28th:

1907: The Senator steal 13 bases against the Yankees and catcher Branch Rickey.

1910: In the Cubs 11-1 win over the Reds, Joe Tinker becomes the first player in M.L. history to steal home twice in a game.

1959: In the first inning of a 6-0 loss to the Giants, the Phillies Wally Post becomes the first player in M.L. history to throw out two runners from the outfield in one inning.

1962: Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane dies at age 59.

1970: The Pirates sweep a doubleheader from the Cubs in the final games played at Forbes Field, the team's home since 1909.

1979: The Giants trade Bill Madlock, Lenny Randle, and Dave Roberts to the Pirates for Ed Whitson, Fred Breining, and Al Holland.

1991: In the Reds 8-5 win over the Astros, Barry Larkin joins Ernie Banks and Fred Patek as the only shortstops to hit three home runs in a game.

2001: Tony Gwynn announces he will retire at season's end.

2007: The Astros Craig Biggio records his 3,000th hit.

2009: In the Yankees 4-2 win over the Mets, Mariano Rivera records his 500th save.

2012: The Braves retire Chipper Jones' #10.

2015: In the Mets 7-2 win over the Reds, Steven Matz becomes the first pitcher in to drive in four runs in his M.L. debut.
 
June 29th:

1897: The Chicago Colts (later Cubs) sets a M.L. record for runs scored in a 36-7 win over the Louisville Colonels.

1905: With the Giants leading the Brooklyn Superbas 11-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, makes his first M.L. appearance. He would never have a M.L. at bat, but was immortalized in W.P. Kinsella's book "Shoeless Joe" and in the movie "Field of Dreams".

1913: The Reds 9-6 win over the Cubs is played with just one baseball. There was no home runs or foul balls to land in the stands.

1936: Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew is born in Payette, Idaho.

1941: In a doubleheader against the Senators, Joe DiMaggio ties, then breaks George Sisler's A.L. record 41 game hitting streak.

1960: While being swept by the Dodgers, the Phillies set a record with 24 strikeouts during a doubleheader.

1972: The Braves trade Orlando Cepeda to the A's for Denny McLain.

1975: During a doubleheader against the Padres, the Reds extend their streak of games played without an error to 14, breaking the M.L. record of 12 originally set by the Tigers in 1963.

1986: The White Sox trade Tom Seaver to the Red Sox for Steve Lyons.

1990: Two no-hitters are pitched on the same day for the first time since 1917. The A's Dave Stewart pitches his in a 5-0 win over the Blue Jays while the Dodgers Fernando Valenzuela does the same in a 6-0 win over the Cardinals.

2000: With heavy security at Shea Stadium, the Braves John Rocker makes his first appearance in New York against the Mets since his controversial comments in a Sports Illustrated article. He pitches a perfect eighth inning in front of 46,998 jeering fans.

2000: The Indians trade David Justice to the Yankees for Ricky Ledee and two players to be named later.

2004: Randy Johnson joins Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, and Steve Carlton as the only pitchers in M.L. history to record 4,000 strikeouts.

2005: Craig Biggio is hit by a pitch for the 268th time, breaking Don Baylor's M.L. record.

2010: Whit Merrifield hits a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning to help South Carolina defeat UCLA 2-1 and win the College World Series national championship, the first title for the Gamecocks in any sport.
 
June 30th:

1908: Cy Young pitches no-hitter in the Red Sox 8-0 win over the Highlanders.

1909: The Pirates lose to the Cubs 3-2 in the first game at Forbes Field.

1938: The Phillies lose to the Giants 14-1 in the final game at the Baker Bowl.

1948: The Indians Bob Lemon pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Tigers.

1961: With a 5-1 victory over the Senators, the Yankees Whitey Ford becomes the first pitcher in A.L. history to win eight games in a month.

1962: Sandy Koufax pitches a no-hitter in the Dodgers 5-0 win over the Mets.

1970: The Reds lose to the Braves 8-2 in the first game at Riverfront Stadium.

1978: The Giants Willie McCovey hits his 500th home run.

1978: The White Sox name Larry Doby to replace Bob Lemon as manager.

1995: The Indians Eddie Murray records his 3,000th hit.

1997: In the Rangers 3-2 win over the Dodgers, Bobby Witt becomes the first A.L. pitcher to hit a regular season home run in 25 years.

1998: The Cubs Sammy Sosa becomes the first player in M.L. history to hit 20 home runs in a month

2006: A 5-2 loss to the Marlins marks the Red Sox 17th straight errorless game, setting a new M.L. record.
