1963: Mets outfielder Jimmy Piersall celebrates his 100th career home run by going backwards while running the bases. He is released by manager Casey Stengel two days later.
1973: Just 20 days after pitching his high school team to a state title, David Clyde makes his ML debut with the Rangers. He pitches five innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight in them Rangers 4-3 win over the Twins.
1977: After managing one game, a 10-8 win over the Twins, Eddie Stanky abruptly resigns as Rangers manager. He would return to Mobile, Alabama and resume his job as coach for the University of South Alabama.
1984: Aganst the Cardinals, the Cubs Ryne Sandberg hits a leadoff homer in the ninth to tie the game at 9-9. Then he hits a two run home run with two out in the tenth to tie the game again. The Cubs would win 12-11 on an RBI single in the 11th by Dave Owen.
1986: In a 6-5 win over the Dodgers, the Braves set a NL record by stranding 18 runners on base.
2003: Barry Bonds steals his 500th base, becoming the first player with 500 stolen bases and 500 home runs.
2007: In a Southern League game in Montgomery against the Biscuits, Mobile BayBears pitcher Matt Elliott locks himself into the bathroom. He angerly broke the lock after allowing the game tying run. He misses the rest of the game because he was locked in for 47 minutes.
2010: The Marlins fire manager Fredi Gonzalez and replace him with AAA skipper Edwin Rodriguez.
2011: Upset by the team's lack of commitment about his future, Jim Riggleman resigns as Nationals manager.
2012: The Phillies Jim Thome sets a ML record with his 13th walk-off home run in a 7-6 victory over the Rays.
