The tirade causes Ruth to be suspended for one game, fined $200, and stripped of his title as Yankees captain, which he had been for less than a week.
1923: Ty Cobb scores his 1,741st run, breaking Honus Wagner's record.
1935: In the Braves 11-7 loss to the Pirates at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field, Babe Ruth his the last three of his 714 career home runs.
1937: The Tigers Mickey Cochrane gets hit by a fastball from the Yankees Bump Hadley. Cochrane would spend six weeks in the hospital. His playing career ended. He would return to the Tigers solely as the team's manager.
1951: Willie Mays goes 0-5 in his M.L. debut. He makes two great defensive plays in the outfield to help the Giants beat the Phillies 8-5.
1953: In a 10-3 win over the Reds, the Braves Max Surkont sets a M.L. record with eight straight strikeouts.
1981: Carl Yastrzemski joins Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, and Hank Aaron as the only ones in M.L. history to appear in 3,000 games.
