1951: The Dodgers Roy Campanella wins the first of his three N.L. MVP awards.

1972: The Phillies name Danny Ozark as manager.

1978: After going 25-3 with a 1.74 ERA, the Yankees Ron Guidry is the unanimous winner of the A.L. Cy Young.

1979: Edward Williams Bennent buys the Orioles for $12.3 million.

1982: The Rangers name Doug Rader manager.

1982: N.L. owners block the re-election of Bowie Kuhn, ending his 14-year run as commissioner.

2000: The Phillies name Larry Bowa manager.

2001: The Astros name Jimy Williams manager.

2001: In the first game played in November, the Yankees Scott Brosius hits a two out, two run home run off Byung-Huyn Kim to tie Game 5 of the World Series 2-2. It was the second straight night the Yankees hit a game tying homer in the ninth inning off Kim. The Yankees win the game in the 12th inning and take a 3-2 series lead on a walk-off RBI single by Alfonso Soriano.

2006: The Seibu Lions of the Japanese League officially release Daisuke Matusuzaka to allow him an opportunity to play in the United States.

2007: The Dodgers name Joe Torre manager.

2010: The Giants defeat the Rangers 4-1 in Game 5 to win the World Series. It's their first title since 1954, when the franchise was in New York.
 
November 2nd:

1914: Johnny Vander Meer, the only pitcher to throw no-hitters in back-to-back starts in M.L. history, is born in Prospect Park, New Jersey.

1938: Jimmie Foxx becomes the first player to win three MVP awards.

1964: CBS becomes the first corporation to buy a M.L. team, purchasing the New York Yankees.

1972: The Phillies Steve Carlton win the N.L. Cy Young Award.

1974: The Braves trade Hank Aaron to the Brewers for Dave May and Roger Alexander.

1976: The Padres Randy Jones wins the N.L. Cy Young Award.

1999: Ken Griffey, Jr. asks the Seattle Mariners to trade him so he can b closer to his family in Orlando.

2000: After playing 15 years with the Giants, Orioles, and Cardinals, Will Clark announces his retirement.

2000: The Blue Jays name Buck Martinez manager.
 
November 3rd:

1953: The rules committee re-establishes the rule that give a RBI on a sacrifice fly. That rule had been dropped in 1939.

1964: Voters in Philadelphia approve a $25 million bond issue to build the eventual Veterans Stadium.

1965: Sandy Koufax is unanimously voted as the N.L. Cy Young Award winner.

1970: The Phillies trade Curt Flood to the Senators for three minor league players. Flood had refused to go to the Phillies in a 1969 trade from the Cardinals citing that he was not a piece of property to be sold, making him the first to mount a serious challenge to baseball's reserve clause.

1988: The White Sox name Jeff Torborg manager.

1992: The Yankees acquire Paul O'Neill and minor leaguer Joe DeBerry from the Reds for Roberto Kelly.

1997: The Red Sox Nomar Garciaparra is unanimously named the A.L. Rookie of the Year

1999: The Rangers trade Juan Gonzalez, Danny Patterson, and Greg Zaun to the Tigers for Justin Thompson, Alan Webb, Francisco Cordero, Gabe Kapler, Bill Hasleman, and Frank Catalanotto.

2001: In a 15-2 win over the Yankees in Game 6, the Diamondbacks sets a World Series record with 21 hits. The win forces a deciding Game 7 the next night.

2006: Greg Maddux wins his 16th Gold Glove, tying the record with Brooks Robinson and Jim Kaat.

2013: The Tigers name Brad Ausmus manager.
 
November 4th:

1935: Former Green Bay Packers tackle Cal Hubbard becomes an umpire for the A.L. He would become the only inductee in both the Baseball and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

1950: Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander dies at age 63.

1955: Cy Young dies at age 88.

1959: The Cubs Ernie Banks wins his second straight MVP award.

1965: Al Lopez resigns as White Sox manager.

1980: Japanese star Sadaharu Oh, who hit 868 home runs in his professional career in Japan, retires after 22 years.

1997: The Phillies Scott Rolen is the unanimous winner of the N.L. Rookie of the Year award.

2001: Trailing the Yankees 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Diamondbacks tie the game, then win it on Luis Gonzalez's walk-off RBI single off Mariano Rivera, giving Arizona a 3-2 win in Game 7 of the World Series. Pitchers Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling are named co-MVPs. They are the first players to share the World Series MVP since the Dodgers trio of Ron Cey, Pedro Guerrero, and Steve Yeager in 1981.

2002: The Blue Jays Eric Hinske win the A.L. Rookie of the Year award. The Rockies Jason Jennings wins the award in the N.L.

2004: Two N.L. East teams name new managers: Willie Randolph by the Mets and Charlie Manuel by the Phillies.

2009: The Yankees defeat the Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 to win their 27th World Series title.

1958: Paul Richards replaces Lee McPhail as Orioles GM.

1976: The Orioles Jim Palmer wins the A.L. Cy Young Award for the second straight season.

1996: The Yankees Derek Jeter is unanimously named the A.L. Rookie of the Year.

1997: On the day he is named A.L. Manager of the Year, the Orioles Davey Johnson resigns.

1950: Branch Rickey signs a five year deal to become executive vice president and general manager of the Pirates.

1969: The Tigers Denny McLain and the Orioles Mike Cuellar share the A.L> Cy Young Award. It's the first time the award voting ended in a tie.

1984: The Tigers Willie Hernandez joins Rollie Fingers as the only relievers to win the Cy Young and MVP in the same season.

1987: The Reds trade pitcher Ted Power and shortstop Kurt Stillwell to the Royals for shortstop Angel Salazar and pitcher Danny Jackson.

1997: The Giants Dusty Baker is named N.L. Manager of the Year for the second time.

2000: The Mariners Kazuhiro Sasaki, at age 32, becomes the second oldest to win Rookie of the Year in M.L. history. The Braves Sam Jethroe was 33 days older when he won the N.L. Rookie of the Year in 1950.

2002: Giants GM Brian Sabean announces manager Dusty Baker will not return the next season.

2002: The Diamondbacks Randy Johnson wins his fifth Cy Young Award.

2007: Greg Maddux wins his 17th Gold Glove Award, breaking the tie he was in with Brooks Robinson and Jim Kaat for the most all time.

1963: The Yankees Elston Howard becomes the first black player to win the A.L. MVP Award.

1964: The Braves receive permission to move from Milwaukee to Atlanta after the 1965 season.

1972: The Reds Johnny Bench wins his second N.L. MVP award in three years.

1978: The Red Sox Jim Rice is named A.L. MVP.

1979: Balloting for the A.L. Rookie of the Year ends with the Twins John Castino and the Blue Jays Alfredo Griffin tied in the voting. That prompts change in the voting procedure for the next season.

1990: The Indians Sandy Alomar, Jr. wins the A.L. Rookie of the Year.

1995: Major League Baseball and Fox reach a new broadcasting agreement.

1997: Larry Rothschild is named the first manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

2000: The Braves Rafael Furcal is named N.L. Rookie of the Year.

2002: The A's Barry Zito is named A.L. Cy Young Award winner. The Cardinals Tony LaRussa and Angels Mike Scioscia are named Managers of the Year.

2005: The A's Huston Street and the Phillies Ryan Howard are named their leagues Rookie of the Year.

2007: The Phillies acquire reliever Brad Lidge and infielder Eric Bruntlett from the Astros for outfielder Michael Bourn, reliever Geoff Geary and a minor leaguer.

2011: The Royals trade outfielder Melky Cabrera to the Giants for pitcher Jonathan Sanchez.

1950: The Red Sox Walt Dropo, who led the A.L. with 144 RBIs, is named the league's Rookie of the Year.

1951: Yogi Berra is named the A.L. MVP.

1977: Hall of Fame manager Bucky Harris, who led the Senators to the 1924 World Series title, dies on his birthday at age 81. In that 1924 season at the age of 27, he led the Senators to the title in his first year as manager.

1983: The Braves Dale Murphy wins the N.L. MVP award for the second straight season. He joins Ernie Banks, Joe Morgan, and Mike Schmidt as the only players to be named MVP in back-to-back seasons.

1990: Darryl Strawberry leaves the Mets, signing a five year contract with the Dodgers.

2000: The White Sox Jerry Manuel is named A.L. Manager of the Year.

2004: The Pirates Jason Bay and the A's Bobby Crosby are named Rookies of the Year.

2005: The Angels Bartolo Colon is named A.L. Cy Young Award winner.

2007: Tampa Bay announces they will change their nickname from the Devil Rays to simply the Rays.

2010: ESPN announces that the broadcasting team of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan will no longer do their Sunday Night Baseball telecasts. The two had been together on the Sunday night broadcasts for 21 years at the network.
 
November 9th:

1950: After 21 years with the team, Luke Appling is released by the White Sox. He would become the manager of the Memphis Chicks in the South Atlantic League.

1953: By a 7-2 vote, the Supreme Court reaffirms its prior position ruling that baseball is a sport and not a business, exempting the game from anti-trust laws.

1982: By a unanimous vote, the Brewers Robin Yount is named A.L. MVP.

2000: Dusty Baker joins Tony LaRussa as the only three time winners of the Manager of the Year award.

2002: Dusty Baker signs a four year deal to manage the Cubs.

2005: The Braves Bobby Cox and the White Sox Ozzie Guillen are named their leagues Manager of the Year.

1952: A's pitcher Bobby Shantz is named A.L. MVP.

1986: The Red Sox Roger Clemens becomes only the second to win the A.L. Cy Young Award by unanimous vote. The Tigers Denny McLain was the other in 1968.

1968: Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson wins the N.L. MVP.

1974: The Dodgers Steve Garvey wins the N.L. MVP.

1978: The Yankees sign Luis Tiant to a two year, $875,000 contract.

1961: Roger Maris is named A.L. MVP for the second straight season.

1962: The White Sox release pitcher Early Wynn, who won 299 games for them.

1967: After winning the triple crown, Carl Yastrzemski is named A.L. MVP.

1983: Cal Ripken is named A.L. MVP.

1988: The Dodgers Kirk Gibson is named N.L. MVP.

2000: The A's Jason Giambi is named A.L. MVP.

2001: Roger Clemens wins the A.L. Cy Young for a record sixth time.

2005: The Devil Rays name Joe Maddon manager.

2006: Six weeks after being fired by the Marlins, Joe Girardi is named N.L. Manager of the Year. The Marlins finished with a record of 78-84, making him the first manager to win the award for a losing team. In the A.L., the Tigers Jim Leyland is named Manager of the Year.

2007: A San Francisco grand jury indicts Barry Bonds on four counts of perjury and one count obstruction of justice after being accused of lying about his past use of performance enhancing drugs.

2007: The Padres Jake Peavy is named N.L. Cy Young Award winner.

2010: The Giants Buster Posey and Rangers Neftali Feliz are named their leagues Rookie of the Year.

2010: The Pirates name Clint Hurdle manager.

1886: The Pittsburgh Alleghenys (later the Pirates) leave the American Association to join the National League.

1947: A day after the two teams made a trade with each other, the Browns and Red Sox make another deal. The Red Sox trade Sam Dente, Clem Dreiesewerd, Bill Sommers, and $65,000 to the Browns for Ellis Kinder and Billy Hitchcock.

1949: Jackie Robinson is named N.L. MVP.

1954: The A's name Lou Boudreau manager.

1959: The A's name Harry Craft manager.

1966: The Mets name Wes Westrum as manager, replacing Casey Stengel.

1966: After winning the Cy Young for his 27-9 record with a 1.73 ERA, Sandy Koufax stuns the baseball world by announcing his retirement at 30 years old. Koufax cites his arthritic arm and fearing permanent damage.

2002: In a three team deal, the Rockies send pitcher Mike Hampton and outfielder Juan Pierre to the Marlins in exchange for outfielder Preston Wilson, catcher Charles Johnson, reliever Vic Darensbourg, and prospect Pablo Ozuna. The Marlins then deal Hampton to the Braves in exchange for reliever Tim Spooneybarger and prospect Ryan Baker.

2004: The Expos name Frank Robinson manager.

2008: The Red Sox Dustin Pedoria becomes the third player to win the MVP a year after winning Rookie of the Year. The others were Cal Ripken Jr. in 1983 and Ryan Howard in 2006.
