1943: Phillies owner William Cox is indefinitely suspended bu Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis for placing wagers on his team, not knowing it was against the rules.

1962: The Dodgers Maury Wills is named N.L. MVP.

1964: The Mets purchase the contract of Warren Spahn from the Braves.

1971: The Pirates name Bill Virdon manager.

1988: The Yankees sign Steve Sax to a three year deal worth $3.75 million.

2009: The Twins Joe Mauer is named A.L. MVP.

2010: The Rangers Josh Hamilton is named A.L. MVP.

2011: The A's trade pitcher Gio Gonzalez and pitching prospect Robert Gilliam to the Nationals for pitcher Tommy Milone and Brad Peacock along with catcher Derek Norris and prospect A.J. Cole.
 
November 24th:

1953: The Dodgers name Walter Alston manager.

1964: The Cardianls Ken Boyer is named N.L. MVP.

1971: The Braves Earl Williams is named N.L. Rookie of the Year.

1975: The Twins name Gene Mauch manager.

1982: The Orioles Cal Ripken, Jr. is named A.L. Rookie of the Year.

1986: The Twins name Tom Kelly manager.

2003: Hall of Famer Warren Spahn dies at age 82.

2005: The Marlins trade first baseman Carlos Delgado to the Mets for first baseman Mike Jacobs and minor league prospects Yusmeiro Petit and Grant Psomas. They also traded starter Josh Beckett, third baseman Mike Lowell, and reliever Gullimero Mota to the Red Sox for four prospects (one of them Hanley Ramirez). The two deals help slash $27 million from the Marlins payroll.

2009: The Cardinals Albert Pujols wins his third N.L. MVP.

1914: Joe DiMaggio is born in Martinez, California.

1941: At age 24, shortstop Lou Boudreau is named the Indians manager, making him the youngest skipper this century.

1944: Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis dies at age 74.

1949: Ted Williams is named A.L. MVP.

1970: The Yankees Thurman Munson is named A.L. Rookie of the Year.

1980: The Yankees name Gene Michael manager.

1981: The Brewers Rollie Fingers becomes the first relief pitcher to win the A.L. MVP.

2002: The Red Sox hire Theo Epstein as their new general manager. At 28 years old, he becomes the youngest GM in M.L. history.

2003: The Cubs acquire first baseman Derrick Lee from the Marlins in exchange for first baseman Hee Seop Choi and a minor league prospect.

2005: The Phillies trade first baseman Jim Thome to the White Sox for outfielder Aaron Rowand and two prospects.
 
November 26th:

1960: The relocated Senators franchise officially becomes the Minnesota Twins.

1975: The Red Sox Fred Lynn becomes the first player in M.L. history to win both the Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season, taking the honors in the A.L.

1986: The Yankees acquire Rick Rhoden, Cecilio Guante, and Pat Clements from the Pirates for prospects, including pitcher Doug Drabek.

1996: The owners approve the new CBA. The new agreement clears the way for interleague play, revenue sharing, and a payroll tax.

2003: The A's trade catcher Ramon Hernandez and outfielder Terrance Long to the Padres for outfielder Mark Kotsay.

1974: After he pleads guilty to making illegal contributions to President Nixon's reelection campaign and obstruction of justice, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner is suspended two years by Commissioner Bowie Kuhn. The suspension is later shortened to 15 months.

1979: The Dodgers Rick Sutcliffe is named N.L. Rookie of the Year.

2000: The Brewers sign former Rockies closer Curtis Leskanic to a three year deal.

2005: The Mets and Billy Wagner agree to a four year deal worth $43 million. Another closer, B.J. Ryan, agrees to a five year deal worth $47 million with the Blue Jays.

2006: Adam Kennedy signs a three year deal worth $10 million with the Angels.

2007: The Rays trade outfielder Delmon Young, infielder Brendan Harris, and prospect Jason Pridie to the Twins for starter Matt Garza, shortstop Jaosn Bartlett, prospect Eduardo Morlan.

1966: The Yankees trade third baseman Clete Boyer to the Braves for outfielder Bill Robinson and a player to be named later.

1971: The Giants trade pitcher Gaylord Perry to the Indians for pitcher Sam McDowell.

1971: The Astros trade Joe Morgan, Cesar Geronimo, Ed Armbrister, Jack Billingham, and Denis Menke to the Reds for Tommy Helms, Lee May, and Jimmy Stewart.

1971: The Cubs trade starter Ken Holtzman to the A's for outfielder Rick Monday.
