1951: Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella wins the first of his three NL MVP awards.

1966: Sandy Koufax wins the Cy Young Award. It the last one in which one winner from both leagues is named. Both leagues will have a winner starting next year.

1972: The Phillies name Danny Ozark manager.

1978: The Yankees Ron Guidry is named AL Cy Young winner.

1979: Edward Bennett Williams buys the Orioles from Jerold Hoffberger for $12.3 million.

1982: The Rangers name Doug Rader manager.

1982: The NL owners block the re-election of Bowie Kuhn, ending his 14 year run as commissioner.

2000: The Phillies name Larry Bowa manager.

2000: The Dodgers name bench coach Jim Tracy manager.

2001: Game 5 of the World Series between the Yankees and Diamondbacks becomes the first game in ML history to start in November. For the second straight night, the Yankees hit a two out homer in the bottom of the ninth off Byung Hyun-Kim. Scott Brosius tied the game at 2-2 to send it to extras. In the 12th inning, Alfonso Soriano singles in Chuck Knoblauch to give the Yankees a 3-2 win and a three games to two lead in the series.

2001: The Astros name Jimy Williams manager.

2004: The Diamondbacks name Wally Backman manager.

2007: The Dodgers name Joe Torre manager.

2010: The Giants defeat the Rangers 3-1 in Game 5 to win the franchise's first World Series title since the team was in New York in 1954.

2014: The Blue Jays trade Adam Lind to the Brewers for starter Marco Estrada.
 
November 2nd:

1938: Jimmie Foxx is named AL MVP.

1964: CBS purchases 80% of the Yankees from Dan Topping and Del Webb for $11.2 million.

1972: Steve Carlton wins the NL Cy Young.

1972: The Braves trade Felix Milan and George Stone to the Mets for Danny Frisella and Gary Gentry.

1974: The Braves trade Hank Aaron to the Brewers for Dave May and Roger Alexander.

1976: The Padres Randy Jones win the NL Cy Young.

1999: So that he can be closer to his family in Orlando, Ken Griffey, Jr. requests the Mariners to trade him.

2000: After a 15 year career, Will Clark announces his retirement.

1953: The rules committee reinstates the sacrifice fly rule which credits a batter with an RBI for a run scored on a fly ball out. The rule had been dropped in 1939.

1965: By unanimous vote, Sandy Koufax is named Cy Young winner.

1970: The Phillies trade Curt Flood to the Senators for three minor leaguers.

1988: The White Sox name Jeff Torborg manager.

1992: The Reds trade Paul O'Neill and minor leaguer Joe DeBerry to the Yankees for Roberto Kelly.

1993: The Braves Greg Maddux becomes the first to win the NL Cy Young in back to back years with different teams. He won it the prior year with the Cubs.

1997: The Red Sox Nomar Garciaparra unanimously wins the AL Rookie of the Year award.

1999: The Rangers trade Juan Gonzalez, Danny Patterson, and Greg Zaun to the Tigers for Justin Thompson, Alan Webb, Francisco Cordero, Gabe Kapler, Bill Haselman, and Frank Catalanotto.

2001: The Diamondbacks set a World Series record with 22 hits in a 15-2 win over the Yankees in Game 6, forcing a deciding Game 7.

2006: Greg Maddux wins his 16th Gold Glove, tying the record held by Brooks Robinson and Jim Kaat.

2009: In the Phillies 8-6 over the Yankees in Game 5, Chase Utley hits his fifth home run of the series, tying Reggie Jackson's record from 1977.

2013: The Tigers name Brad Ausmus manager.

1959: Ernie Banks wins his second straight N MVP award.

1965: Al Lopez resigns as White Sox manager.

1980: Japanese star Sadaharu Oh retires from baseball. He hit 868 home runs in his 22 year playing career with the Japanese Yomiuri Giants.

1997: Scott Rolen is named NL Rookie of the Year.

2001: Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Diamondbacks rally and win the game on Luis Gonzalez's walk-off RBI single off Mariano Rivera, giving Arizona a 3-2 victory over the Yankees in Game 7 and the World Series title.

2002: The Blue Jays Eric Hinske and the Rockies Jason Jennings are named their leagues Rookie of the Year.

2004: Two new managers are named in the NL East. The Mets hire Willie Randolph and the Phillies name Charlie Manuel their managers.

2009: The Yankees win their 27th World Series title with a 7-3 victory in Game 6 over the Phillies.

2010: Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson dies at age 76.
 
November 5th:

1936: The Dodgers name Burleigh Grimes manager.

1976: Jim Palmer wins the AL Cy Young for the second straight season.

1976: The A's release Chuck Tanner from his contract, allowing him to be the Pirates new manager. The A's receiver catcher Manny Sanguillen and $100,000 from the Pirates.

1996: By unanimous vote, Derek Jeter is named AL Rookie of the Year.

1997: On the day he is named AL Manager of the Year, Davey Johnson resigns from that position with the Orioles. His relationship with owner Peter Angelos had soured throughout the season.

2007: The Pirates name John Russell manager.

2009: The Marlins trade Jeremy Hermida to the Red Sox for pitching prospects Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.

2012: The Red Sox and David Ortiz agree to a two year deal worth $26 million.

2013: The Mariners name Lloyd McClendon manager.

2005: The players and owners agree to stiffer penalties for a positive PED test. A positive steroid test would result in a 50 game suspension for a first offense, 100 games for a second, and a lifetime ban for a third. The agreement also allows testing for amphetamines. A first positive test for that means more testing, a second offense resulting in a 25 game suspension and 80 games for a third.
