I remember Rand Paul taking a beating on this, but I’ve been curious. Is the whole murder part of a lynching not considered a federal crime already? Wouldn’t we just want to have the Feds get involved if the local or state systems didn’t properly handle a lynching, and doesn’t that already happen? I don’t necessarily object to the statute, but it feels ceremonial and redundant.
Sen. Rand Paul on Fox News:
"If you read his speech and listen to it carefully, much of it is thinly-veiled
innuendo calling us White supremacists, calling us racists, calling us every
name in the book, calling us people who don't tell the truth."
