TOP 30 PROSPECTS: New Year's Eve Edition

Good list, my biggest argument is I would have to have Wiegel on that list and not HM, I think he is in the low 20s.

I think Rob Whalen, if not in the 30, has to at least get a mention. His career minor league ERA is a sparkling 2.44, WHIP of 1.102, and is having a strong year in Mississippi this year.

My Top 20 without the guys just drafted or signed on July 2.

I think you have Fried about 10 spots too low, and Whalen should be at the bottom of that list. Unless you're doscounting upside a bit, Newcomb, Sims and Touki probably belong over Ruiz and definitely belong over Peterson. Those 3 pitchers haven't clicked yet, but they have the potantial to be impact starting pitchers, while Ruiz has the upside of a below average regular and Peterson's upside is a bench player...the definition of fungible assets.

Just my opinion, but I think Davidson, at best, just barely cracks the top 20, if that. He hasn't shown hardly anything yet. And while I like Soroka a lot, I don't see any way he can be ranked ahead of Swanson. And while Acuna has all kinds of potential, he can't stay healthy thus I'd place him in the 11-15 range. Again, just my two cents.

I think very little of Ruiz and Riley... and I'm not that high on Peterson either. No way I put any of them above Newcomb or Fried

I think he's just overrating prospects drafted and developed by the Braves. In addition to what's already been said, Allard and Soroka have no business being ahead of Swanson.

Yeah, Fried is my biggest argument. But, I'm also really high on the guy. I think he's going to be so good for us.

My top 20 without the new guys:

1) Swanson
2) Albies
3) Newcomb
4) Allard

15) Wilson
16) Pache

19) Minter
20) Whalen

Maitan probably slots in somewhere between 5 and 7, while Anderson is probably ahead of Riley, Wentz ahead of Peterson and perhaps Muller ahead of Sanchez. Hard to say on them until we see more of them. I wouldn't put any of our other new acquisitions on that list.

BA's Mid-Season Top 50 list will be out in a couple weeks. It will be interesting to see if any Braves besides Albies and Swanson make the list. Albies has a chance to be in the top 10.

I know there is a lot of hype around Newcomb, but I am concerned if he will ever become what we were hoping for. He seems to be struggling

If you look at his numbers, he is good. He doesn't give up Homers or really XbH... it is his inability to throw a strike. that can come around... so don't give up on him yet.

He's been up and down, but he's striking out enough guys. Just needs to keep that up while starting to bring his BB down. When he's been on, he's really been on, though.

I noticed that too, but Newcomb is a year older and Giolito lost a year.
Still means something his numbers are close, but those facts matter as well.

And Newcomb was a cold weather pitcher from a small college that was considered to be rawer than most pitchers his age.
