"Prospect status" is just a term. Swanson is a big leaguer now, period. He is off the list the same way that Jenkins and Blair and Gant and Cabrera have left the list. Sure, they could give him the day off Sunday against Verlander and prop him up to be the favorite to win the rookie award last year.
The rookie of the year award has been worthless since Nomo was given it over Chipper. Bet if he's given a choice, he plays.

J.J. Cooper: Yes. Legit prospect of some sort. He is a plus runner and is a solid defender anywhere in the outfield. He is a table-setter as a hitter, but he gets on base because he likes to use himself as a human pin-cushion who takes plunk after plunk.

Those first two pictures, where would those have been taken? Notice the Tigers' prospects in the background. Maitan hasn't actually played any games, has he? I thought instructional league was just working out with Braves' coaches only.

They play games, that's where Tebow is.
 
Braves have re-signed minor league free agents Ryan Gebhardt and Mel Rojas, Jr. Rojas goes into the honorable mention list of prospects.
 
one thing i don't understand...the articles and experts point to maitain being a shortstop, claiming that makes his value even greater. we see that often when talking about prospects, usually that's about keeping them at short versus moving them to second or the outfield or something. third base, however, seems like it's always been the most difficult spot on the diamond to fill. so why isn't having a guy who might end up at third considered a plus?

how many third basemen are in the hall of fame? fewer than any other position, i'm sure...
 
Can't believe you don't give Ray-Patrick Elijah Khalil Didder at least honorable mention. If for no other reason, he achieved the oddest 30/30 season ever with 39 HBPs and 37 SBs. Add the 20 OF assists and he should at least get a spot in "Rico's Believe it or Not."

It is a plus, especially over 1B or LF. It's just that being able to play SS well does add to your value. It's historically been the hardest spot to find someone capable of major league defense there who can also hit.
 
Maitan might be able to play SS early in his ML career. Chipper would have been able to do so if not for his knee injury. Just being decent enough to back up the position is valuable too.
 
Alex Jackson gets a lofty placement in my top 30. Up to date, but will re-do bios after Winter Meetings.
