What type of market would there even be for Teheran though? Would we need to eat salary?

Julio at 11 and 12 mil the next 2 years, or thereabout, is a pretty solid deal if you want someone to eat innings, and give you quality starts.

There would be a market for him, but the return probably wouldnt be much, would be more about just clearing his salary.

Bears repeating, but Teheran isn't that cheap and his season wasn't that great even though he was incredibly fortunate in his batted ball results.

It looks like he is a near 5.00 FIP guy now and even if he continues the career trend of outperforming his peripherals you're talking about a very backend rotation piece at best with evidently some kind of arm issue given his fluctuating velocities.

Braves are best suited parting ways, but the front office has been known not to send money to get rid of guys and that's going to make it difficult. Maybe they could jigger some kind of contract swap that makes sense for both teams.

11 million for 1 year is not expensive. Also comes with an option. They'll be takers if we want to give him away.

Julion had a very strange season. Had the highest K rate and highest BB rate of his career. Has virtually zero surplus value on his contract. I would keep him. He needs to get that BB rate back down and also work on the change-up against lefties. He got his slider back this year.

Sanchez wants to pitch several more years and wants to return to the Braves. I'd be happy to have him back in rotation in 2019.

babip was insanely low.

That’s not a repeatable skill according to what I have read.

I don’t think the Braves need a veteran 6th starter. If they did want one, it should be someone better than Teheran and probably cheaper.

I don’t believe a contender has to make room for prospects, but Teheran hasn’t really earned the right to keep pitching in my book. There are better and cheaper options for those innings internally and perhaps on the scrap heap.

If Braves were to resign Anibal that would only leave the one rotation spot for all of those babes we can all list and giving Teheran those starts would be a ease.

If you can shed some of his contract to improve incrementally elsewhere that’s worth it to me.

Sunk cost is sunk cost if necessary.

Article also said he would like to coach in the future. Has there ever been a player / position coach in the mlb. Fire Chuck and let him be the 5th starter / pitching coach.

I suggested the same thing awhile back.

and yes, there have been many player/coaches. The most notable one that I can remember was Connie Mack. Pete Rose also did it, Frank Robinson, Terry Francona, Dusty Baker and Joe Girardi to name a few more. I could probably dig up another 10-15 if I put my mind to it.

Just remembered a former Brave did it-- Joe Torre.

Not sure it would work in today's game. I don't believe we've had one in decades.

Not a fan of player/coach. We need someone who can take information and develop a game plan every night. Understand every pitcher and know how to utilize their stuff each game. That is a full time job that can’t be done while you also prepare for your start.

Sanchez might eventually make a great pitching coach but the Braves need one now and need to get one this offseason.
