FWIW, the #Padres were ALWAYS OK with collecting draft pick compensation for Justin Upton after he turned down QO.

That's my thought. The Dodgers have a couple mega prospects and some youngsters, but their system is fairly shallow.

Bowden is such a genius as to know that Rizzo would draft ZImmermann in that spot.

Yeah, not every comp draft pick is going to be a Zimmerman though it is often better for a club to just hold onto a player and take the picks than trade him. Braves should have held onto Teixeira instead of trading him for Kotchman. Angels actually selected Trout with one of the comp picks from that deal. No guarantee we would have picked him there but we couldn't have done worse than Kotchman.
