He's the type of player a rebuilding team (theoretically two years out) should take a risk on. You know the hype and attention would die as soon as he came to Atlanta, so that might help his attitude.

I definitely agree with you. Puig is no doubt a major headcase. But maybe with Fredi G. and Fredi Free, he could be slightly tamed enough to tolerate his attitude? Markakis LF, Maybin CF and Puig RF wouldnt be so bad, for the right price of course
 
So now the speculation is that the Jays will flip one of their many right handed bats for pitching. They will probably flip Encarnacion or Joey Bats since they're only signed through 2016. But for fun let's assume Donaldson could be had with Tulo naturally moving to 3B as big SS's tend to do in their 30's.

What would you give up for Donaldson?

I'd keep it simple, Tron and Miller. THey get a cheap high quality MLB SS, and a cheap high quality MLB SP. Then I'd offer Donaldson whatever it takes to extend him. Build the team around he and Freeman, sign Price in the offseason, profit.

There were. Five other teams -- mostly contenders.

I would imagine that the Braves won out because they offered a Major League contract with a guaranteed role, presumably with a gentleman's agreement that they would make him available if a team in the playoff hunt asked.

Toronto just acquired Tulowitzki. Why would they want Andrelton?

I think that's an insane overpay.

Not to mention, Tulo has said many times he has no interest in moving to 3B, even if that is the norm for bigger SS's in their 30's. He's pretty set on staying at SS. Whether that is realistic or not is another story..

On another note, MLBTraderumors has mentioned the Rockies are also aggressively shopping Cargo, would you take a flyer on him?

I would, but I think another team (LAA) will take on his entire contract and also cough up some nominal talent in light of his recent hot streak.

Cargo hasn't played a full season in 3 years and is just average away from Coors. I'd consider it if it were a deal to include McMahon as well.

The Angels are choking on Wilson, Weaver, and Hamilton right now. I don't see them taking on another big contract until after next year when Wilson and Weaver are gone.
 
I've always been intrigued by Cargo, but as much as i hate the "well he plays in Coors and his numbers are ballooned b/c of that" argument, that might be true with Cargo. I dont know his exact numbers away from Coors, but given his injury history and contract, i dont know that i'd give up much for him. McMahon would be a nice addition to him in a deal, but i feel like Cargo would be one of those classic "come to the braves and suck" type hitters, i.e. Uggla, Upton etc etc etc.

True, who knows with Arte Moreno. Anaheim has a short window too IMO.

CarGo is only due $40M~ ... I think Colorado can reasonably get someone to take most/all of that.

The Mets might make the most sense. They have a very good cheap rotation. They can afford to splurge on hitters.

I would not trade Giolito, Ross, or Turner for Kimbrel though. Turner makes a little sense (because they have several SS options), but I think he's a keeper.

They are not headed off a cliff like the Tigers, but if they trade multiple top prospects for short-term assets they will be doing so at the expense of future seasons. Don't get me wrong . . . I think it's a defensible approach given their current reality. But when you look at the roster and $, this 2015 squad would be the apex if they got Kimbrel / Chapman.

Not saying I wouldn't do it, just saying I would have to be really cautious. I wouldn't want to give up the farm for him. But at a reasonable price he's worth the risk. If he plays well but wears out his welcome you can always pawn him off on someone else.
