Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Can't recall the last time it took this long for someone to find out the prospects included in a deal (Dodgers-Marlins).

Probably nothing of note. Dodgers paid for Morse and will likely DFA him or flip him paying the bill. Salary dump for the most part. Yes, we have heard this one before.

Per Crasnick

Fielding calls on Gomes and AJ- AJ viewed as a back up catcher per Crasnick and what I would imagine would be a very solid bench bat.

Also, "plenty of interest" on Jim Johnson as he isn't owed much through the rest of the season.

This is the only reason I think there's an outside chance that the Twins might be willing to outbid other teams for Johnson and possibly off Kepler. They've got Rosario, Hicks, and Buxton ready at the MLB level with Hunter sounding like he might play another year (at least). Kepler's other position is at 1B where he's blocked by Mauer and Sano if/when they move him off of 3B, and several of the others profile better as 4th/5th OFs since they're much better defenders in CF.

I definitely don't expect that Hart can get Kepler for JJ, but he's the one that would probably be the most "available" of their OFs, and since they're also more motivated than the other teams to add the pen help on the cheap he'd probably be the trump card if they'd offer him.

I feel the lack of interest in Upton has more to do with his bad defense and going into prolonged slumps than being someone that wants market value. That hasn't really stopped teams before.

I think its because the Pads are delusional. They wanted Giolito AND Turner/Ross for Kimbrel.

We're not getting Kepler. Not for JJ.

Jim Johnson is a decent option, but most teams are going to view him as a 7th inning rental. Considering the Nats gave up less than Kepler to get Papelbon for more than just a rental year (I understand he's much more expensive, but that's not going to matter that much), we have to have our sights set lower. I'd take any prospect who has a pulse, basically...anyone with a real shot at playing in the majors in any capacity.

Yeah, and the market is saturated with potential relief guys.

That may be, but the Twins bullpen is killing them right now. Perkins is having a bad month and they've really got nothing else. Johnson would probably be their set-up guy from Day 1. Not that that would net us Kepler or Walker, but I think the Twins would be interested--perhaps very interested--in Johnson.

Some updates from Bowman . . . Frasor may have a market, and Maybin is still being discussed.

Jim Johnson and A.J. Pierzynski remain the most likely Braves to be traded by Fri. Maybin is still in play & Frasor has drawn some interest

And from his replies . . .

@mlbbowman Still feel Maybin is more of an off-season trade?

@TJP_89 I think that would make more sense, but they'll pull the trigger if they get the "right value" this week

We have a crazy number of B level arms that could be tossed in to make them say Yes. I don't doubt a package could be worked out.

I'd love to get Kepler or Walker either one. I don't think they'd do a one for one but it's always possible to add a prospect in or take on some money if the Twins have something they're looking to drop.

Now hearing the trade is far from complete. Sources telling me it could be falling apart. Total confusion. #marlins

I'm assuming he's referring to the Latos deal.

Looks like Texas is favorites for Hamels.

LAD prefer David Price more, wonder what it'd cost for him.
