Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

At least they are squandering their talent on proven Major Leaguers, regardless of specific need.

Hmmm. Wouldn't this be something?

One team that some in the industry believe is a dark horse for Justin Upton: The Minnesota Twins.

Is AJ Preller asleep? Dude needs to get busy. Pronto.

Anyone watch the last episode of True Detective? He's locked in his apartment with a fifth of tequila, three packs of cigarettes, and a huge pile of Chip Caray nasal decongestant. He's probably in the air guitar phase right now. Expect some major deals soon, followed by some remorseful telephone calls and a complete and searching moral inventory at some point in the near future.

So the Chicago Sun Times Cubs beat writer says we've talked to the Cubs about Teheran. We would want Soler, and he said we would even give up Teheran and more for Soler.

He also mentioned friction between Teheran and McDowell as reason we would be open to move him.

He's left himself in a kind of pickle it seems - the remaining teams looking to add are either notoriously frugal (NYM) or bereft of meaningful talent (Baltimore). Minnesota is somewhere in between. He can probably move Kimbrel for a talent light package from the Yankees, but that market seems to have evaporated.

My guess is that he moves Upton/Ross to replenish the farm a bit and then tries to move those pieces again this offseason.

A wildcard is Chicago. I could see Theo nabbing Kimbrel and his money along with Cashner/Kennedy for a package involving Castro.

I saw that report. If they end up doing this, they are really decimating the front end of the starting rotation. This will put A LOT of pressure on Matt Wisler and Mike Foltynewicz to perform. Suddenly, the starting rotation would go from a strength to a complete unknown, and they would be relying on a lot of young arms to come through soon.

Jorge is another Cuban expatriate that Atlanta bid big for when he defected. http://www.talkingchop.com/2012/6/15/3090278/braves-were-willing-to-spend-big-on-jorge-soler

If this happens then I have to think the plan is to sign one of price or grienke. I would not be a fan of trading teheran.

#SFGiants in active discussions with #Reds on Mike Leake, sources say. (@Joelsherman1 reported the possibility earlier tonight.)

I know the Braves have loved Grienke in the past, and they certainly seem willing to pursue players that their scouts have loved now more than they were previously.

What I'm wondering is how the Braves scouts felt about Yoenis Cespedes when he came out of Cuba. They seem to really like the Cuban players with their previous pursuit of Jorge Soler, current pursuit of Hector Olivera, and Dian Toscano. I've heard Cespedes isn't the best locker room guy, which is why he is looking to be on his fourth team in 3 years after this season.

Brewers show the way with what they got from Houston in their trade. They got a future everyday CF/RF and a future everyday LF/RF plus two pitchers better than either Whelan or Gant all for a player the Mets turned away because of medical concerns and a decent #3, #4 starter.

If the Braves had given up Wood and Maybin for the haul from Houston, I would be over the moon.

I think this whole board would of been drunk on love with Hart. That would of been an incredible trade.

Sources: #DBacks want to land Chapman with idea of extending him past 2016. New TV deal starts next season. Team again poised to spend big.
