Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

I hope the Astros get Kimbrel. Atleast then Kimbrel will get a lot of post season games which is where closers truly earn their money. Not an Astros fan but their success doesnt make me vomit like the Yankees/Cardinals/Nationals/Dodgers.

Brewers show the way with what they got from Houston in their trade. They got a future everyday CF/RF and a future everyday LF/RF plus two pitchers better than either Whelan or Gant all for a player the Mets turned away because of medical concerns and a decent #3, #4 starter.

If the Braves had given up Wood and Maybin for the haul from Houston, I would be over the moon.

And the brewers traded significant players. This type of comment is pointless

Yeah those are totally different situations and deals.

I can't complain that we basically got two #1 picks in a great talent draft. That's solid blocks to build off of even if they don't get here til 2020 or later. Coupled with Intl binge, we could be stockpiling ridiculous talent.

I think maybe 2017 might be a hair early unless we make more major moves.

My source indicates that Braves have had conversations about Teheran w/ at least 3 teams. Cubs plus 2 more.

I'm generally in favor of moving Teheran - but have lost all confidence in Hart to make a good deal for offense

I won't lie, I'm a bit skeptical as well. If he can make a really solid deal, I'm happy.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a move involving Teheran and Maybin.

Would love to see these fools come calling on Teheran today . . .

Team to monitor on controllable starters all day today: Arizona. They may strike. Feelers out everywhere.

I don't think he gets shipped off, heyman said our price is high and his value is low...

I would pull the trigger if the right thing popped up. Chicago is on Carrasco and Ross probably a lot harder with Red Sox in tow as well.

Per Heyman on Twitter:

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Julio Teheran's name is "not out there now" in trade talks.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports last week that the Braves were "quite open" to the idea of dealing Teheran, but they've apparently pulled him off the market. It would be an odd time to trade him, anyway, since he's having a disappointing season and Atlanta might not be able to get what he's worth.

Are we gonna move AJ today? It makes zero sense for him to catch everyday from here out. Move him or sit him in favor of Bethancourt today

And I'm super glad that the Gnats didn't get Kimbrel but looks like the Yankees are front runners now which is equally depressing

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees "keep hammering away" at a trade for Craig Kimbrel.

The Astros and Red Sox have also talked to the Padres about Kimbrel, but it appears the Yankees might be the frontrunner here. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman hears that the Padres have sought shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo in a deal for Kimbrel. The Yanks had been viewing him as untouchable but might be altering that position. Acquiring Kimbrel would give New York a dynamic trio at the back-end of the bullpen, with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller serving in setup roles.

And Chapman...

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Yankees are one of five teams "aggressively pursuing" Aroldis Chapman.

The Diamondbacks are known to be one of the others clubs. The Giants have poked around on Chapman but might be out of it after trading some assets for Mike Leake. The Yankees appear dead-set on adding a closer despite already having Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances, as they've also been linked heavily to Craig Kimbrel.

I think Heyman's report is pure posturing.

Yeah, so many teams looking for controllable starters right now. The phone will definitely ring on Teheran and that call will be answered. I'd guess chances of a trade are more like 25% though.
