Trade deadline thread

yes, that is a dumb comment. We were always getting him back so it really isn't an addition.. but it does factor into AA not getting another pitcher perhaps.. Wright too. If we can go into the playoffs full strength, then I like our pitching. With such a huge lead, I would like to skip guys going down the stretch (Mort/Elder/Strider).. Let Riggy have a few days off..
I wish we would replace Sorryio-- that is my dream today.. but I know he isn't eating that money by letting him go or rot on the bench.

If we knew Fried and Wright would be coming back full strength, there would be less need for starting pitching. As is, I think we need to have alternatives if Fried goes down and we should plan on Wright not being available. If they both come back, we have the great problem of too many starters but we shouldn't assume they'll be back. They're coming back from arm injuries so there are no guarantees.

I'd love to replace Easy Out Eddie too. But AA seems to like him a lot better than anyone else. It's kind of odd.

agree, but I have a feeling AA has enough data to make him feel more comfortable about it. just my thoughts at least.

A lot went down yesterday. There isn’t a lot of impact help out there besides a couple of guys and everybody is fighting for them. AA won’t stand pat but he may not get the type of player some of us hope for.

I think Verlander, Flaherty, and Lorenzen get moved today easily.

Also, I am going to predict the biggest trade of the day is going to be Paul Goldschmidt back to the DBacks to be their primary DH and potentially end his career back where it started.

Update on Justin Verlander:

Sources say the Astros, Dodgers, Braves, and Orioles are all involved.

The same four clubs are engaged on other rotation options; there likely will come a point today when Verlander suitors pivot and find their pitching elsewhere.

Sounds like 4 teams after 3 SPs. That's 3 incredibly intelligent FOs plus another newly competitive team bidding on the same arms.

Will be an interesting round of musical chairs.

Dodgers are in hot pursuit of Eduardo Rodriguez now (and have been discussing Verlander).
@ByJackHarris
reported E-Rod and JV are their top targets.

Orioles checked in on Verlander but there’s little sign of progress there so far. Also unknown if JV would OK Baltimore.

Still hard for me to believe the Mets would deal Verlander to the Braves

I don’t think they care. That’s alot of money for a 40 year old. ERod has been mediocre since coming back from injury and with the opt out looking I’d pass on both probably but I’ll be happy with whoever we get that can help us win.

If you offer a guy like Kyle Wright you never know.

Are the Mets dumb enough to take on a guy with shoulder issues?

I'm a fan of Wright if he's got the chance to get healthy again, but would do a deal involving him for JV due to the risk. Shoulders have a nasty habit of never getting back to full strength.
