Trades/acquisitions

Trading something of good value for 2 months of a good but flawed player like Baez before signing him to a 100m+ extension is so perfectly Mets. Chef’s kiss.

Move was 100% influenced by the Yankees trading for Rizzo and Gallo.

Baez has something like a ~90 wRC+ in his last 1000 plate appearances... I'm not sure he's even that good anymore

His results grade out better than his raw stuff (below average fastball velocity, but high spin rate), so I think some analytically-driven teams shied away from him. Great control. Clearly he's a needed upgrade for us, so I'm not complaining.

Curious to see if Bryse Wilson gets any better in a different environment. He's another guy I thought was rushed. Really no secondary stuff and along with a below average fastball that isn't going to get you very far. DeVito is an interesting prospect, but he hasn't pitched in a bit so I wonder if he's hurt and, if so, how badly.

He will actually get a chance to pitch in the big leagues though for the Pirates. He did show flashes of being really good, but I think the back and forth hurt him

Duvall may get here by game time and he will be in left field if he arrives in time... everyone else should arrive tomorrow per DOB... because no SJ... the US does not have planes that go that "fast as ****"

Considering how inconsistent the offense has been, I'm happy to roll those dice. If they go back to consistently scoring 5+ runs/game, sending Arcia down and replacing him with Pache to be a defensive replacement shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't think the offense got that much better. Like Enscheff wrote, the new guys are all-or-nothing types with pretty lousy on-base skills. Duvall improves the OF defense, but Soler and Rosario are potted plants (Rosario has a decent arm, which is a plus).

Ynoa, Anderson, and TDA are going to be some serious upgrades too... with the other upgrades... their addition is pretty substantial

Agree on that. It's just difficult to learn at the major league level, but at least he will be with a team with lower expectations for team success. The yo-yo can't be good for anyone.

He is still a 3-4 WAR guy even with the plate discipline issues. I wouldn’t touch him with an extension though. Once he loses any athleticism he’s going to lose it quick.

I mean... he certainly is a positive defender... but not sure that's really what the Mets need... they needed an offensive kick and I don't know that he really does that much

A lot of premium FA won’t have a pick attached to them this offseason.

Probably because most teams understand compensation picks are likely going away with the new CBA. The players absolutely loath the fact those picks drag down FA contracts.
