Trades/acquisitions

Probably because most teams understand compensation picks are likely going away with the new CBA. The players absolutely loath the fact those picks drag down FA contracts.

It will probably still affect the FA class coming up wouldn’t you think?

I’m not going to lose sleep over it, but Wilson, Ball, and DeVito aren’t dead weight. If one of these guys hit, we will all look back and wonder why AA bothered trading these guys for the chance to get spanked by the Dodgers in the first round.

With that said, I think AA had to show some commitment to the team given how they hung around. The most important decision that will be made this year will be signing Freddie to a fair but reasonable extension. I was worried that standing pat or selling on this team would leave a bitter taste in Freddie’s mouth heading into the offseason.

I still expect Wilson to stick in the back of a rotation and Ball to mash. But I'm an optimist who was sure Kyle Davies would be a 2 or a 3.

Mish said the Marlins wouldn’t be trading anybody to the Braves lol

Yeah, Mish also whiffed on the JTR trade as well after talking in absolutes. Dude strikes me as a complete buffoon who thinks he's more important than he actually is. A bit like a young version of Shanks.

Wilson is someone who could probably benefit from getting a long string of starts in the big leagues -- no immediate pressure, no sense that he's one bad start away from going back to AAA. Just a chance to get his head kicked in and learn how to pitch at the big league level.

Atlanta couldn't be that place, considering we're trying to contend. Pittsburgh is about as great an opportunity as Wilson's going to find in that regard.

Wonder if Wright will be used in a similar trade this winter.

In his post-deadline interview, AA brought up re-signing Freddie: “Our goal is the sign Freeman, and he absolutely wants to stay”.

DeVito was one of the 2019 HS draftees we went overslot for if I remember correctly... has done nothing but succeed since he's been in the organization and has some helium.. but still only 20 innings in high A ball

DeVito was a college guy out of Seton Hall. 8th round pick in 2019 who signed for $1,200 over slot. Owens and Johnson were the post-Round 10 high school pitchers who we went well over slot to sign.

SS would be the most obvious place to upgrade in the offseason with so many SS available. Who is the best fit? Seager would be my pick giving us another LH power bat. And he’s from the area.

Ahhh... my bad... I thought I remember his name being an intriguing upside guy though.

I’m ok with this. I’ve already written the season off, so if we can play competitive baseball ‘til the end of the season, that’s playing with house money as far as I’m concerned. We got a little better and didn’t give up anything of much consequence. I was personally done with Wilson, but I’m happy to see him get an opportunity to grow up somewhere else. And I’m glad that they’re telegraphing a desire to sign FF. Who knows? We may even get two games over .500 and have an opportunity to get absolutely rinsed in the first round of the playoffs.
