Trump Corruption, Crime and Contempt for the Law

This really needs its own thread and I feel the topic is going to be in the news for a long time, regardless of the outcome in Nov.

... Just How Much Legal Trouble Is Trump In?

One thing I’ve learned about Trump and about the country is that Trump has always exploited honor systems. He’s always looked for places where people obey the law not because they have to but because it’s seen as the right thing to do. They don’t want to go against social convention, and so they follow the rules—but when you break the law, it’s not like a cop steps out from behind a pillar and arrests you. He takes advantage of that. When he finds a place where there’s an honor system, he exploits it. He does what the honor system doesn’t expect. And he often gets a huge advantage out of that. He did that in his business often. He did it at his charity—he didn’t follow charity rules, and he took advantage of the fact that the charity system takes a long time to catch up with you if you do that.

And what we’ve found is that the presidency is an honor system. On purpose, we did not write a lot of laws that govern the presidency because that’s supposed to be held by a person of honor who will follow honor systems about not mixing government and private business, not mixing government and politics. And Trump has again taken advantage of that. There’s so many cases in which he said, I know it says I can’t do this or other people haven’t done this, but I’m going to do it. Try and stop me. I’ll see you in two years. What we’ve seen in all these court cases is that that worked. And also that Trump’s opponents, the Democrats in Congress and people in law enforcement, didn’t understand whom they were dealing with. Often they sort of seemed to expect that Trump would follow the honor systems, even when his whole life had shown that he would not.

There are a lot of things in this country that in large part operate on the honor system. Rule of law. Paying taxes. Common decency and consideration for others. Take that away and you don't really have a functioning society. Those are the stakes imo. Was clear four years ago. Is even more clear now. Supreme Court appointments pale in comparison.

This week OO decided to sanction International Criminal Court officials. These are the people who prosecute international war criminals. Clearly, no friends of our baby dictator.

I believe this files clearly under contempt for the law.

I suppose you support the UN though right?

The idea that Presidents have normally been people of honor is pretty off base. We've elected scoundrels more often than we've elected honorable men.

I think Trump's problem is he lacks the political savvy to do things quietly.

Or he refuses to be deceitful to the American people and doesn't hide his true intentions.

That doesn't make it any better or give him some kind of moral high ground. Raping someone and whispering in their ear that you are raping them doesn't make it any less heinous than saying they want it.

Seriously, the levels of corruption is staggering

Breaking News: In a highly unusual legal maneuver, the Department of Justice moved to replace President Trump’s private lawyers and defend him against a defamation suit brought in state court by the author E. Jean Carroll, who has accused him of raping her in the 1990s.

Looks like it's a stunt to delay the next phase of the trial, something guilty teams usually do.

The OG AG said the defamation was done in Trumpa official capacity as President which is why DoJ is defending him. Lol

It isn't a completely crazy argument. Defaming other people has been a significant activity for him (see recent comments about military chiefs being motivated by lust for money) since he has taken office.

One of these days Democrats will find a candidate who isnt deathly afraid of offending Republicans. It is just downright sad they care so deeply about trying to get 2%of Republicans to vote for them.
