Trust The Process: Rebuilding Plan Is What's Best For Atlanta Braves

Here are the facts: Ken Rosenthal’s report that the Braves talked about dealing Freeman was 100 percent true. Three sources told Yahoo Sports that Freeman’s name came up in conversations with the Houston Astros as part of a mega-trade that would’ve included more than five players. It went nowhere. Neither did light chatter with other teams. Discussions about franchise-type players owed more than $100 million rarely do, and that context is vital in understanding what Atlanta is trying to do.

Pretty interesting...it really seems that the Astros are the best fit for a trade for Freeman. If they don't rekindle the talks at the meetings next month, I think Freeman will stay in Atlanta. They are really the only team that can provide the prospects required to blow our socks off

I thought overall it is a pretty good piece.....even has the mention of Kevin Maitan and how we are the "favorites" to sign him

Who would or could NOT have predicted that the rebuild/tear-down or whatever you want to call it would lead to a meltdown on the part of many fans... particularly the kind that frequent discussion boards like this one.

That's what makes this so interesting. Everyone has a better idea. The FO are all idiots... Why can't we get more return for the players we are trading? Why trade my favorite player? Why trade for a guy I don't like? Why not trade our spare parts for a star hitter. I don't think the plan will work.

Guys... The other teams don't want to give us the pieces to become good. They are worried about their own teams. Despite our access to stats and even some pretty sophisticated ways of evaluated players, the FO has access to information we don't have. A sportswriter speculating, or even with an inside source still does not have all of the information that GM's are using to make personnel decisions. Sometimes plans depend on confidentiality. Every player is an injury away from having zero value. Every move is a gamble. Some work out and some don't.

We had some really knowledgeable posters who are no longer here because they got tired being attacked and challenged every time they said something positive. I guess chasing them away means you won the argument, but some of those guys were making good contributions and are missed.

Actually got to a little thinking about Maitan and the direction of the trades from the Braves.....we figure to spend BIG TIME on the IFA market this signing period coming up. Last year we took a lot of position players and I would figure it could be the same way this coming up year. Do you think the braves are relying on the IFA market to funnel new position talent into the system to go with the pitching talent from the trades?

I don't consider being a blind follower making good contributions.

You can start by assuming the worst, or assuming the best. The truth is usually neither, but somewhere in between. Chasing away those who see it differently than you do is one way of winning an argument, but not usually a productive one.

Sounds like it. But if that's where we're relying on getting bats this is going to be a LONG rebuild.

Just as some who have been labeled "blind followers" don't consider some leveling those descriptions anything other than trolls and idiots.

mfree80's point (as I take it at least) is that whether you're willing to admit it or not, the people making those decisions...

1.) have access to far more information than you're getting for free on the internet,
2.) access to people who understand and process that information much better than a huge majority of "Monday Morning QBs" who allow personal preferences to enter their analysis of what they actually do have access to, and...
3.) are significantly more experienced in the process of running a professional sports franchise as well as typically much more educated than those of us who spend hours criticizing their every move.

Have to agree....hopefully it is just to get additional talent into the system, but not talent that you bank on having sustained major league careers *cough* olivera *cough*

This Maitan kid sounds like he could be the real deal, but we shall see...lets sign him first!

So what do you suggest some of us post on this board when we look at a move, consider it, think it over and disagree with it?

Moaning about every deal as if it was the beginning of Armegeddon doesn't contribute much either.

This is a message board dedicated to the fans. Dissecting the smallest moves and discussing it is what we are here for. For every hyper critical person there is (me) there is a sunshine blower who balances this place out.

post what you want. I can't see how anyone 'Gets run off' from a message board. Stat your mind and if you believe it, then back it up with why you believe it. I disagree with folks across multiple boards and have never been so upset, I felt obligated to leave. I have also admitted when I was wrong or off base. But even if I disagree with someone in one thread, doesn't mean I won't support them in another.. I believe what I believe.. if you don't like F off..

Who is being chased away? Who is doing the chasing? When you have loud opinions you can expect to be countered loudly by those who have different ones.

I agree with all of that. It's why they are making the big bucks. However they aren't perfect. They do make mistakes. What I find annoying is those that refuse to admit that and blindly trust everything they say and do.

Maybe he is referring to the fact that thethe (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was viciously cyberbullied by me and others.

I hate to say it but if they would offer a Teixiera level package I think we should take it. I would ask for AJ Reed/Colin Moran/Daz Cameron/Kyle Tucker/Derek Fisher and their competitive balance draft pick. If we could add that while unloading his 100 million contract then we should do it. Otherwise the Astros can stick it.

Doesn't matter now.. I don't see how Coppy can back away from his extremely definitive statement of Freeman not being traded. I think if he changed his mind on that, he would be a laughing stock to both fans and future players

Freeman is staying now

I would be perfectly fine with Coppy going back on his statement about Freeman if the right deal came along. He should not deal in absolutes with the media, but I don't think he should change the way he operates the franchise based on an interview.
