TUESDAY MINORS FINAL 8/22: Soroka Strong earning 11th win

MOustakas will get much better offers.

I think we have a 1 year bridge in BP an potentially a 2+ year bridge in Camargo.

Either way - not sure if shelling out big money to a 3rd baseman makes sense this offseason. Lets just absorb the contract of a big pitcher like Verlander/Hamels.

Coppy said Riley is up in 2018. If Riley can keep it up, adding he and Acuna to the lineup would add a nice bump. I think they may give he and Jackson the chance to break with the team at the start of next season (not saying I agree with that). I think they are moving forward with the youth movement.

I would not push Riley that much. He has a lot of swing and miss and I would want him to get at least 400 AB's in AAA before promoting him. He has a long ways to go. Early 2019 is where I'm targetting his arrival if he makes it.

Riley at AA is now walking at his highest rate since rookie ball 7.4% and is striking out at a lower rate than last year in Rome 24.8%.

I guess the question is while this is a small sample - Has Riley changed the long term plan at 3B?

Is a one year bridge now the best solution to see how he develops in AA/AAA next year?

Considering playoff contention is unlikely in 2018, I would just go with a Rio/Adonis/Camargo mish-mash at 3B. That trio should be able to produce 1-2 wins and won't cost the Braves a dime.

Riley was comfortable and calm at the plate Tuesday. Oppo double and normal singlek, plus two walks. Set table nicely for Jackson's two RBIs.

Nothing remarkable about Jackson behind the plate, except called for CI in seventh inning.

FYI, Soroka very much in command during his six innings. Changed speeds well and did not labor. Very easy motion.

Contrast with Allard, who seemed to throw everything at nearly the same speed. He got timed pretty well.

Austin Riley now has a 815 OPS in AA at a 20 year old.

small sample (144 PAs) and BABIP (.356) caveats apply

his .252/.310/.408 line in High A (339 PAs) is also of relevance in assessing where he is at as a prospect

I'm curious with the way they are handling R.P. Didder this season. He's spent a good share of the last couple of months back in the infield. He made his first error of the season at SS (he has errors at other positions). I don't know about his range factor or whatever other metric is used to gauge minor league fielding prowess, so it could all be misleading. He's hitting better since the break, but he still Ks like Hessman without the power upside. He won't be on the 40-man over the winter (he is Rule 5 eligible), but no one will pick him, but I've always been curious about the guy. Probably a AA ceiling, but he sweats tools, so one never knows.

I'm for trying out a Camargo/Ruiz platoon at 3rd as a stopgap and then have Camargo be a super utility guy...I really don't care as long as Dansby stays at SS and Ozzie at 2nd which I'm not confident that will be the case

Jace is all power?

No. Dustin's brother is D.J. Peterson, late of the Mariners' system and now with the White Sox AAA team. And let me re-phrase a bit. D.J. Peterson is not all power, but his power numbers throughout the minors have been much better than Dustin's.

solution.. not sure about that.. but he was really good last year. His K's were down and walks up. He is a good filler for a team with other big time players. ~2 WAR guy.

I specifically remember thethe making a matter of fact statement regarding DPete being our leftfielder soon.

I called him on it and then he said I wasn't respectful

LOL yes I'm aware Jace is not Dustin's brother.

I remember folks insisting he was the solution for a corner OF slot.

I would say there is still a chance of that. To say people were hard Ozzie (not taking his injury into account), and not giving DPete the same measure...? We have seen how Freddie has been with the "less" bone break. I have read that Dpete's injury is a year process at best.

Not that it matters because with Acuna and Nick and Kemp...no spot for him. DPete and Lane would make good bench prices next year though.

I doubt he remembers it. He once considered the Upton trade a steal because jace played at a 2 war pace for a month.
