TV Thread

Anyone still watching Westworld? I feel like they specifically got Anthony Hopkins to play Ford for that one scene this week.

I'm enjoying the **** out of it. About the only thing on tv I'm watching with any commitment right now, outside South Park.

I watched the two most recent back-to-back on Monday, having not had a chance to catch up until then, and I feel like they really ratcheted the narrative up for the home stretch. Hopkins, in particular, is turning stronger and stronger performances (while Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton have been on point all season).

Kate McKinnon is one of SNL's funniest women ever. Her Hillary is an all-time great, imho.

Probably should go in the movie thread, but she's been an awesome supporting player in some forgettable 2016 movies. Her characters in Ghostbusters, Misfits, and Office Christmas Party are about the only reason to see any of those movies. Curious to see if someone will build a vehicle for her in the same way they did for Kristen Wiig. Wiig is building a solid career both inside and outside of the comedy world.

The Young Pope starts tomorrow on HBO. Jude law plays the first American pope in it. The reviews of the first episode aren't the best but it really picks up episode 2.

So I was set to watch The Americans season 4 on Amazon Prime but you have to purchase the episodes. So I went to the FX Now app and the episodes aren't there. Then I figured I would go watch Atlanta since I heard great things about it. Also not on the damn app. What is the point of even having an app for your network if you don't put the shows on there?

Endeavour is another crime show I've gotten hooked on. I like it because it's old school BBC and thus quite sparse and understated. The only problem is there are only 4 episodes a year.

Endeavour (TV_series)

Plot

Set in mid to late 1960s Oxford, England, the series centres on the early career of Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) after he has left Lonsdale College of Oxford University late in his third year without taking a degree, spent a short time in the Royal Corps of Signals as a cipher clerk, and then joined the Carshall-Newtown Police. In the pilot episode, having been transferred to CID after only two years as a uniformed police constable, the young DC Morse soon becomes disillusioned with law enforcement and begins writing a resignation letter. Before he can resign, Morse is sent with other detectives from the Carshall-Newtown Police to the Oxford City Police's Cowley Police Station to assist in investigating the case of a missing fifteen-year-old schoolgirl.

Having studied at Oxford gives Morse advantages and disadvantages when dealing with Oxford's "town and gown" divide. During the pilot episode, he tenders his resignation but his superior, veteran Detective Inspector Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), the "guv" at the Oxford City Police's CID, sees in him an unblemished detective whom he can trust and takes him under his wing to be his new "bag man" meaning assistant, replacing a corrupt Detective Sergeant.

Making my way through Homeland now - into Season 4 and really enjoying it.

I DVR'd Legion, but am gonna wait a month or so to see what the reviews say before I get into that.

Iron Fist is only a month away - very excited for that, trailers look great

Has anyone started watching Legion yet? I've got the episodes DVR'd but was waiting until I heard good/bad before I watched them.

Iron Fist sucked balls. I think Rotten Tomatoes gave it a really low rating. Only thing I loved about it was Henwick, she is a babelicious. The main guy is a stiff that can't act. Whomever plays Ward is good, the sister, uggh. The fight scenes are laughable. If you really want to see some bad ass fighting, Into the Badlands is much much much better even though that show doesn't make any sense.

Maybe their fifth installment would be better.

OA, The Travelers are next on the binge list. I hope they are better to get me out of this Iron Fist pit.

I like Iron Fist quite a bit, it's just slow. Not much action for a superhero show.

The show me and the wife have been binging on is 13 Reasons Why. Just a terrific show.
