Uggla-How Long a Leash?

I don't think he should get the job period. I'll never forgive that sorry bastard for the strain he's put on this franchise.

No reason to make it personal, he did what anyone would do and accept a good contract offer. It sucks he's played so terribly, but it's not like he's a bad person for what he did.

If he sucked on purpose then there'd be a reason to hate him, but by any real account, he wants to play well.

I'm speaking from a die hard Braves fan's perspective, not his drinking buddy that plays poker with him every second Wednesday of the month. In his past three seasons he hasn't contributed a thing worth that "good contract offer". He needs to be embarrassed and ashamed of himself.

I'm sure he's embarrassed with his performance. Given how many times he's worked on various things. It's not like he's Garrett Andersoning it.

The top infielders in the organization deserve a chance to compete for the job. With Justin in the lineup the right handed power isn't such a necessity anymore. We need good D and productive ABs.

Uggla should get a month, cause otherwise we're sitting on 26 million in wasted space. If he sucsk then fine we have to eat it. If he starts hitting, good for us we can maybe move him.

Blame the person who gave him the contract not the player.

We don't have anyone that can play good D and have productive ABs.

I have no problems with the effort Uggla puts out.

The one issue I have is his annual hissy fit when Fredi tells him he's going to reduce his playing time. Players who hit as poorly as he has should not be doing that. He needs to realize that he's earned those trips to the bench and that he should be supporting the rest of the team, including the guy out there playing second. Fredi and the rest of the team shouldn't have to be walking on eggshells out of worry that Uggla is going to explode if he gets benched or pulled back for a pinch hitter.

Agreed... say what you want about BJ, but he handled his reduced playing time and benching very well. He was always up front that he was just terrible last year.

Handled it so well that he improved to striking out more once he got plate appearances off the bench.

When did I say anything about he performed well? Please tell me... I'm waiting... I said he was a stand up guy about being terrible. He didn't whine like many others do... he took his benching and accepted it like a man. What a pointless reply.

No I blame him too.

He's made ZERO strides towards getting better. NONE. How is that in turn Wrens fault for giving him that contract? He was tearing it up with a ball club with no expectations and after the trade and sign , he didn't wet the bed, he sh*t in it and rolled around in it for 3 years. Hands down the most WORTHLESS Brave of all time.

How can you speak intelligently about how he handled it? Because he was sitting on the top step during games? Were you in the duggout or club house after he was canned? Yea he didn't raise hell through the media, but that doesn't necessarily mean he and Fredi had cookouts on Sundays and played fantasy football together. I recall him having quite a few non chalant plate approaches in ABs after getting benched.

He had a number of interviews with the press in which he took full responsibility for sucking and even said he didn't blame the organization for benching him... I think you'll just use whatever opportunity you can to dog anyone that you can. You've always been like that.

In the OP I said he needed to be at about a .700 OPS by mid-May. It is now May 1 and his OPS is .561 OPS. He isn't walking, which has been his saving grace in recent years. To my eye, he looks a bit better at the plate than he did last year. But the performance just ain't there. My guess is he only has 2 or 3 weeks to turn it around. The way things work with the Braves Fredi won't be the one making that decision. It will be taken out of his hands.

He is finished. He has been finished. Its time to just let LaStella play everyday and see what he has. Then Wren can plan for what he wants to do at the deadline.
