Francoeur was a flash in the pan. Heyward had many more holes in his swing than Acuna, even without that, Heyward had 1 season with a wRC+ over Acuna's worse season. 3 of Acuna's first 4 seasons are higher than any Jason Heyward seasons.

I was a big Heyward backer back in the day. But this is like comparing Curtis Granderson or Andrew McCutchen to Mike Trout. Ronald is performing at such a superior level. Ronald as long as his career doesn't fall off the rails will be in the MVP race every year.

Everyone in baseball has regrettable moments, and no one is beyond criticism every once in a while. I loved Freddie as a Brave and love Acuña.

2. Why? Was it because Freddie was the first one out of the dugout when Acuña got plunked 6 times by the Dbag Marlin pitchers!

I honestly don't think he meant anything ill..but the crying over the fact he said it is...interesting. He just should have owned what he said. That's my only issue.

He can say what he wants. He just needs to understand what that will mean.

I hope he's a guy who is willing to speak his mind. You don't have to agree and he won't be right all of the time. But it is way more entertaining.
 
The more interesting question today is why was Acuña not participating in the pre-game festivities last night after he had been at the ballpark? Whether he left or was asked/told to leave, that bothers me a lot more than something from four years ago.
 
Of course, he would offend white people will old school sensibilities (like Snit and Freddie).
I sort of resent this. Why bring race into it when it is more of a generational thing?

Edit Or an old school new school thing, maybe. Braggadocio, exhibitionism, attention seeking type of stuff exists in all races, as does a more introverted nature personality. Or so I thought.

What do you think Frank Robinson would have thought of the hot dogging type of stuff like bat flips etc? I think I know.

There's a cultural barrier between the Latin American guys who are all usually free spirits and express their emotions on their sleeves. Whereas guys like Freeman and Dansby are the good ole boys.

Not saying one is better than the other, but there has to be a balance somewhere. And maybe it was Snitker's poor management of personalities because he let Freeman do a lot of things he shouldn't have like force Dansby to play tired and exhausted.

I will say this. Acuña hasn't pretended to be something he's not or mislead us. Freeman on the other hand showed a petty side this offseason that was never really showcased previously. The way he went about his leaving was not very cool IMO.

I still won't forget how Snit and Freddie threw Acuña under the bus after the long single fiasco. Bobby would have benched him but NEVER thrown him under the bus like Snit and Freddie did. And Bobby would not have allowed any other players to throw him under as well.

This is mich ado about nothing IMO, but an important thing that's getting missed in all this - once the first pitch is thrown every night, IT'S A TEAM GAME.

This isn't a new school/old school situation - it really isn't. There are 26 (right now 28) distinctly different personalities in every clubhouse, and there are always going to be things that pop up between players that rub someone the wrong way no matter how good the Manager is. The important thing is that everybody's pulling on the same rope when the game starts. As much fun as it is to complain about Snitker's in-game ineptness, he's clearly shown that he's probably the best Manager in the game when it comes to creating a clubhouse atmosphere that provides players their best chance to succeed.

I think Acuna has a chance to be a generational talent and I love watching him play, but those that have mentioned he has some maturing yet to do are exactly right. That's perfectly fine - he's still "a kid" in baseball years. He's going to turn out to be one in a long line of those uber-talented players that just never quite reached his ceiling if he doesn't grow up a little. Time is on his side though, and there's absolutely no reason to "ding" him because he and another teammate didn't see eye to eye about everything - no matter who that teammate was.

He'll become the player everyone hopes he will if he takes one thing from this - it's not just about me no matter how good I am, and an incredibly important part of my eventual success is getting along with everybody even if we aren't always on the same page about anything other than winning. There have been scores of great players who didn't particularly get along with certain teammates EXCEPT when playing. He doesn't need to go to cookouts at Dansby's house to be a team leader or even a good teammate.

What he should learn from this is that Freddie may very well be an *sshole, but they won a title with him and without Acuna.
 
I have to admit that I never cared for all the hugging. Seems a little silly to me, like men telling each other they love them in emails. I have friends that do that and it makes me feel uncomfortable.

But a team leader should be able to tell a rookie how to wear his uniform, if he thinks it's important. And that rookie should be able to do whatever he wants with the suggestion. At the end of the day players have to grow up, be professionals and leave the personal **** in the clubhouse as much as possible. I'm glad Ronald at least had the sense to not make a big deal out of it at the time. He probably should not have mentioned it now because it's petty and unimportant.
