Unpopular Opinion Thread

A frosted mug raises their worth considerably.

If your solution to making your beer more palatable is to lower the temperature, that means it isn't good. Now it's true that Lagers should be drank cold, as that's how they're handled, but they still should be servable above fridge temp. Pilsner Urquell for example recommends between 5-8 Celsius (or about 41-46 Fahrenheit) which isn't close to freezing like Bud, etc. recommend 37. Because at colder temperatures it hides the flavors as the aromas are lightened.

I routinely drink beers at room temperature when they're high gravity and the room temperature isn't hot. Nothing quite as nice as a 65 degree Russian imperial stout.

In-n-Out and Shake Shack make a good burger.

Smashburger makes a reprehensible one.

For hot dogs, there is a small Northern California chain called Top Dog. It is indeed top dog. And the snarky service adds to the flavor.

Under the category of underrated national cuisines that most Americans haven't tried there are two: Filipino (in honor of board leader) and Ethiopian. Vietnamese is very good too, but I think that has penetrated American consciousness.

Never had In-n-Out, never been near one to be honest. Closest I got was Seattle, which is 200 miles away from the closest one, and I was in town for ECCC and that's about it. Only way I could have considered it was if instead of flying out of Seattle we flew out of Portland. That would have been a bit of a logistical and cost nightmare for fast food burger

Shake Shack is legit.

Smash Burger is OK. I like the customization but the burger and bun leave a bit to be desired. I'd much rather have five guys or Shake Shack. But I there is one scenario I get smash burger. Not sure if I still can do this. But it's one of my 2 things i do. Menlo Park Mall Food Court. Either I go to Smash Burger or Chick-fil-a for protein and then go to Pota-topia to get a heaping serving of Fries and just be such a happy fat boy.

Five guys burgers are a 5/10 tops. Fries too. Way too soggy

Whataburger for FF burgers are awesome

Disagree, sounds like your five guys is screwing up your fries. That is a problem, some places don't cook them correctly. Having a good five guys is a health problem. I had a great one that I used to order on my way home from work, I'd swing by and pick it up and go home and enjoy the **** out of it.

North Florida Sonny's has the best BBQ beans on earth.
Venture south or out of state, not so much.

I always thought it had to do with local water

Tap is right. Five guys isn’t good imo

Burger is ok and the fries are awful

I don’t care that they give you a bag full. It’s a bag full of awful fries

I'm sorry you have a bad Five Guys experience. There is certianly a difference in fries as I've had fries from there which were bad. But overall they've been decent to amazing. With one place in NJ always hitting Amazing.

To me there is also a method to eating Five Guys. First you eat your fries, dump your cup fries into the bag as well. Eat them up leaving the burger in the bag. Eat all your fries, enjoy the lovely salty crispy delights. Then you get your burger out. By this point the american cheese inside the burger should be molten and melted. This is almost a ceremonial method for me.

"Homemade" Taco seasoning may be cheaper, but it doesn't do as good of a job as Ortega mix for making ground beef tacos.

Five Guys is so overrated.

I’m eating at Wayback Burgers right now. For the tier above fast food burgers, Wayback is way better than Five Guys.

Never been, but what I'll say looking at their site, fastfood burgers without mayo or a special sauce are junk most times and their standards don't offer that, which is a red flag for me.

Consider the titans of the industry.

In-n-Out makes their sauce which is mostly mayo, Shake Shack sauce mostly mayo, Big Mac has mayo based sauce, Whopper has mayo, Dave's Single has mayo.

I know you can add it, but if your signature burger is missing an additional source of fatty moisture you're in for a loss. This isn't a restaurant burger which is fresh off the grill, this is a sad boy.

Starbucks Pikes Place Roast tastes burned.

Fun fact, I've never paid for Starbucks.

I'm picky about my coffee, and almost exclusively support small local shops who do a good job.

I'd rather get Dunkin if I'm just trying to get a caffeine fix.
