It's been reported that Fredi is going with an 8-man bullpen to start the year, thus only 5 bench spots and they want two extra infielders so that means either Tyler Greene or Pastornicky if he's ready to go.

Really? That figures. I gave him too much credit.

Going with 8 relievers to start the year? Thats just going to make me even more pissed off when Fredi randomly uses Kimbrel for 2 innings sometime in the first 2 weeks of the season.

Mejia might be a better option than Green for two or three weeks while Pastornicky gets into shape.

I fully expect a small trade for a loogy before the season starts.

Yeah, skid I don't think there's much doubt there will be a trade for a reliever, don't know if its for a loogy but I believe they will acquire a veteran reliever before the season starts.

Mejia is at least someone who could scrape together a bit of value (AL Club) with a good month while Rev comes back. Much more that could be said for Greene.

Greene sucks, he should not make this team. Not a great glove and he obviously can't hit.

They optioned Jaime and Vazquez after their recent debacles. Gearrin had a nice day yesterday. He's still alive for a BP spot.

I'm thinking waiver wire type pick ups for the last couple bullpen spots.. Highly plausible other teams castoffs will be better than some of the crap we've thrown out there this spring.

Braves signed C Yenier Bello to a minor league contract.

The deal was reported a few weeks ago and has now been finalized. A Cuban defector, Bello hit .274 with 13 home runs in Cuba's La Serie Nacional in 2011. It's not clear where the Braves will start him in the minors, but with Evan Gattis in the majors and Christian Bethancourt at Triple-A, it's not really a great situation for him to develop fantasy value.

Mejia plays one position and he doesn't play that position very well. The 25th guy is usually the baseball equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife and that ain't Mejia. I'm not enamored with Greene, but the fact that he can play all three IF positions is a big plus for him given the defensive mediocrity that patrols 2B and 3B for Braves. If Phil Gosselin could prove that his small sample size this spring isn't a mirage or Elmer Reyes had played above High A (and could prove he could at least stand in a major league batter's box without embarrassing himself), the job would likely go to one of them.

Pastornicky is the logical guy for the 25th spot. But ideally he should play a couple weeks in AAA to sharpen up. So the question is do you want Greene or Mejia spelling him during those two weeks. I think there are two arguments in Mejia's favor. First, unlike Greene he is already on the 40 man roster. Second, he's a better hitter. Whoever gets that spot will probably make 2 or 3 pinch hitting appearances before being sent down to AAA and I'd rather Mejia have those. It is not a big deal either way.

Varvaro has been horrible all spring long, I do not understand why he is a lock.

I've always liked the guy's potential, but I don't think he's a lock. I really don't like the back end of the pen right now. Varvaro, Gearrin, and whichever additional lefty they take are all wanting in my estimation.

The front end of the pen will get stronger as Minor, Santana, Floyd and Venters return. I think that will affect how aggressively the front office looks for an upgrade coming out of spring training.

I am hoping they're just giving that idea out because they're planning to trade him soon (if his terrible spring hasn't killed what little value he had). Someone will likely have to go as it is to make room on the 40-man even with being able to put Beachy and Medlen on the 60-day DL (removing them in other words). Garcia needs to be added to the 40-man, Ian Thomas if he makes the team (if not him maybe another lefty via trade), and Gus Schlosser potentially too. That's just for pitchers, if Gosselin or Greene make the team you'd need another spot for one of them too.

This would likely mean Gearrin, Varvaro and Mejia are all in danger of losing their 40-man roster spots. Of course one or two of them could be traded soon too. It just depends on what they decide on the final bullpen spots, etc.

Thomas is probably behind Buchter for the second lefty in the pen spot, in part because Buchter already is on the 40-man.

They might not have to do too much reshuffling. Add Garcia and maybe Schlosser to the 40 man using the two slots vacated by Medlen and Beachy. I don't think Greene or Goselin will make the team, so no need for another 40 man spot. Unless they make a trade, but even in that case they can manage by sending Schlosser to the minors.

I expect them to go with a better second lefty than Buchter making Thomas or someone via trade likely. I hope Greene doesn't make the team because he is bad defensively and offensively despite playing multiple positions. As I said it depends on what they decide, they could go with Pastornicky if they think he's ready or Mejia (I like the Mejia idea best to give Pastornicky some extra time to get ready). I just get the idea that it may be Greene or Gosselin at this point, though Greene is hurting his chances every game it seems. Further, I kinda doubt they go with Mejia after saying they plan to use someone that can play multiple positions (so that brings it back to Pastornicky or making room for someone else till he is ready).
