Venters & Pena DFA'd

Martin has had experience as a reliever both in college and the minors. He is your classic swingman.

Let me say this.. I'm not arguing the fact that I think Martin should have been protected because I think he should have. I'm just saying that if the Braves felt that Martin, Gil, and Cunniff all three had the same likelihood of being selected and only had 2 available 40-man roster spots, that could possibly be the reason.

Hope I didn't come across as being arrogant and if I did I'm truly sorry. Just giving you a possible reason as why they might have chose Gil and Cunniff over Martin. Guess I was playing "devils advocate" so speak.

I didn't think there was anything arrogant in your post. You are an excellent poster.

Per MLBTR: "Also outrighted today was Ramiro Pena of the Braves, per the MLB.com transactions page. The utility man was designated recently, presumably in large part due to his rising arbitration salary."

So Pena has been outrighted to the Gwinnett Braves. That probably means he'll be invited to spring training and stay in the organization.

That sounds right. He had a right to reject the assignment and become a free agent. Obviously, he likes it here.
