Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Perfectly fine - and understandable if he were negotiating on the Sox' behalf.

Considering their current slide, I'd hate to have to explain to Boston fans that I valued what Benintendi or Devers (or even Moncada) might do for them in a couple seasons when Papi's at home playing golf - their fanbase is much less forgiving than ours has ever been.

Coppy has absolutely no reason to reduce his leverage - if Dombrowski thinks they can make a legitimate run with the arms they have, they should feel that way. Just a hunch, but i'd bet that he won't be in Boston long if he lets Benintendi or Devers be what keeps them from running someone like Julio or Sonny Gray out there in the playoffs instead of Porcello, Wright, Buchholz, or Henry Owens.

The funny thing about Law is that he gets to keep EVERY prospect since he can't be fired for giving any of them up.

Keith Law's response on Twitter to whether Boston would deal Benintendi for Teheran:

"That's "Britain will be better off outside of the EU!" crazy"

Then no deal. Boston can continue right on losing ground in the AL East with their terrible pitching.

My guess is the Braves package Norris and Viz to someone for a nice little package that includes 1 position prospect that cracks the top 10 for the Braves.

Same reason we'd trade Julio, to acquire more assets.

That may be true, but Myers is an everyday player who should be the anchor hitter in that line-up. Preller doesn't impress me, but I think trading Myers would border on the insane.

Could a deal be worked out based around Vizcaino and Bradley Zimmer?

Naquin has been playing very well, and with him, Brantley and Chisenhall they are lefty heavy in the OF. Clint Frazier should add his RH bat in there next season. Their starting pitching has been doing very well and they're not set to lose anyone after this season. Their pen hasn't been doing as well with Shaw and Mccalliser under-performing and possible non-tender candidates. Cody Allen only having two more years of arbitration and already making over $4M.

There's a possibility Mauricio Cabrera's cup of coffee was planned as well....Of course that could have been for scouts at the game as well.

I feel like they'd be hesitant (or straight-up unwilling) to part with Zimmer for a RP, despite his obviously concerning K-rate.

I was thinking about something involving Vizcaino and Frazier, but we'd probably have to kick in a significant prospect or two. I'm still not opposed to it though. Frazier's RH power is perfect for our future.

Preller, another non-baseball guy. Take advantage of him like we did in the Upton deal and the other Upton deal.

Will keep going to the well about Myers until we get him. He's an absolute perfect fit. Plenty athletic enough for LF, would make it almost impossible to pitch around Freddie, still cheap AND would possibly be open to an extension ("local kid" from NC).

If there's a young, established bat that I'd trade Teheran in a one-for-one deal for, I think he's the guy.

I'm still completely on the fence about trading Julio, but if Boston continues to hesitate and won't overpay, I'd at least mention it to Preller. I still think Julio would be an absolute monster in Petco.

But why? They don't have any pieces to compete anytime soon right?

Myers needs to stay healthy for one season before I ship anything to them for him.

Yeah, better to deal with him than good baseball guys like Dave Stewart, Bill Bavasi and Kevin Towers.

No way on Earth would I trade Teheran for Meyers with his spotty track record. He was a hyped prospect that has never played in 90 games in a single season.

The best young MLB player I think the Braves should target is Starling Marte. Pittsburgh currently has an OF of Marte, Cutch and Polanco with Meadows nearly ready. They could get a haul for Marte (who is signed to a very similar contract to Teheran), and then promote Meadows.

Marte would be an excellent fit for the Braves. I would be willing to give up any player in the organization to acquire him.

Injuries are concerns for every single player. A falloff in performance is a concern for every player. Those same people that everybody here freaks out about when they mention that Julio "still has a long way to go to prove this is the real him", etc., sound just like the concerns people have about Myers. There's less question for me about whether what we're seeing today is the "real Wil Myers" than whether this is the "real Julio Teheran". Discounting Myers' performance for the time he missed would be the same as people using Freddie's season last year to say he's an injury risk.

Again, that's just my preference. It was pretty obvious Coppy's sold on him too - he sounded like he was half-slobbering when Myers' name was brought up during the "#AskCoppy" chat last week (almost to the point that you worry about tampering concerns). Myers is one year younger than Freddie, and Freddie started to break out in his third season as well. If you could extend him with a deal somewhat similar to Freddie's (adjusted for inflation, of course) the middle of the order could be taken care of for a long time, and you wouldn't be on the hook for either player deep into their 30s.

I'd be in on Myers, but I think they're in full rebuild mode now and looking for quantity as much as quality. Don't think Julio would be the guy they're looking at right now.
