Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Dave Cameron of Fangraphs on Benintendi in a Teheran deal: "I'm guessing Benintendi is off limits. Steamer projects him as an above-average big league hitter right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if they saw him as their Michael Conforto. I know they're saying the right things about leaving him down right now, but if he gets hot and they are still struggling to get LF production in left, I bet he finishes the year in Fenway. That said, Coppy has made it pretty clear he wants big league talent back, not low level guys, so if they say Benintendi is off the table, I'm not sure the fit there is as strong as everyone assumes."

No way on Earth would I trade Teheran for Meyers with his spotty track record. He was a hyped prospect that has never played in 90 games in a single season.

The best young MLB player I think the Braves should target is Starling Marte. Pittsburgh currently has an OF of Marte, Cutch and Polanco with Meadows nearly ready. They could get a haul for Marte (who is signed to a very similar contract to Teheran), and then promote Meadows.

Marte would be an excellent fit for the Braves. I would be willing to give up any player in the organization to acquire him.

Would love Marte as well, and would trade Julio for him straight-up too, but Myers is the only one reportedly "available".

I'd be in on Myers, but I think they're in full rebuild mode now and looking for quantity as much as quality. Don't think Julio would be the guy they're looking at right now.

Agreed, which is why I've floated something like Allard/Jenkins/Davidson for him before. Would offer the same for Marte, but would certainly think the Pirates would prefer Julio.

I would hate to sell off Allard.. but the way Touki/Fried/Newcomb have looked plus the 3 "allards" we just drafted, it would be easier to stomach..

Agreed. Marte is pure conjecture on my part knowing they have 4 guys for 3 spots. They should convert one of their extra OFers into other parts, and I hope they decide to convert Marte into a handful of Atlanta's prospects.

"He's an absolute perfect fit. Plenty athletic enough for LF, would make it almost impossible to pitch around Freddie, still cheap AND would possibly be open to an extension ("local kid" from NC)."

Injuries are concerns for every single player. A falloff in performance is a concern for every player. Those same people that everybody here freaks out about when they mention that Julio "still has a long way to go to prove this is the real him", etc., sound just like the concerns people have about Myers. There's less question for me about whether what we're seeing today is the "real Wil Myers" than whether this is the "real Julio Teheran". Discounting Myers' performance for the time he missed would be the same as people using Freddie's season last year to say he's an injury risk.

Again, that's just my preference. It was pretty obvious Coppy's sold on him too - he sounded like he was half-slobbering when Myers' name was brought up during the "#AskCoppy" chat last week (almost to the point that you worry about tampering concerns). Myers is one year younger than Freddie, and Freddie started to break out in his third season as well. If you could extend him with a deal somewhat similar to Freddie's (adjusted for inflation, of course) the middle of the order could be taken care of for a long time, and you wouldn't be on the hook for either player deep into their 30s.

There are injury concerns every player has, and then there are injury concerns a player who is in his 4th year at the MLB level and has still not played in 100 games. Meyers has a consistent track record of being hurt and/or unproductive.

Meyers is a good pickup if the cost is a package centered around a couple prospects. He is not a good pickup if he costs Julio Teheran. He was an excellent buy low option, but sending the Padres the most valuable trade chip available this year is most certainly NOT buying low.

Allard is so interesting to me, because for all his stuff and poise -- he's still an undersized guy with some back issues at a very young age. He's almost one of the guys I would look to move in the right deal.

I have a hard time thinking he's going to hold up and reach his very very high ceiling.

I would like Myers as well... but would only be willing to go the prospect route to get him... Maybe Blair and Touki for him

I don't love Benintendi other than he fits a position we need. I'd like more quite frankly.

Bregman ripped another home yesterday. Guy has punished AA and has been promoted to AAA.

Would I be the only one to prefer Bregman over Benintendi?

Myers is more an injury risk than the average player though. And he can only play LF (or 1b, but we already have Freddie there). He is a pretty big risk for a team that can't afford to miss on them.

I'd prefer Bregman...He's RH, 3B are harder to find than OF, and he's shown more pop in his bat.

We could even have Adonis as part of the package to team with Valbuena.

Just me, but I'm not sure I'd spend that money if I were Luhnow - Bregman's liable to be ready quicker.

Guess his only thought would be, maybe I can package Bregman ++ for JT and Viz and then replace Bregman with Gurriel this year.

I think Bregman is a long shot for the Braves, because I don't think the Stros have any interest in trading him.

Agreed that Bregman is a long shot... but it'd be sweet to get him. Having a future infield of Freeman, Albies, Swanson, and Bregman would be pretty sweet.

I have been hoping to get Bregman for the last two months. He just fits this team like a glove. His time frame is right in line with Ozzie/Swanson and those four as our future infield would be fun to watch.
