This is outrageous. And in Florida, those who were subject to these archaic, post-Civil War laws designed to prevent Black men from voting by sweeping them up for minor offenses and calling them felonies, got a poll tax slapped on them but the Republican governor and legislature.

A big finding in the study: 9 states are barring at least 10% of their adult Black population from voting in 2020.
They are AL, AZ, FL, IA, KY, MS, NE, SD, and TN.
Tennessee's is the highest: 22%. More than one in 5 Black adult are disenfranchised there. twitter.com/kira_lerner/st…

Hawaii has a lot of military personnel who get moved around a lot. I wonder what the story is with the others.

I have a hard time believing Voter suppression is a real thing. I am certainly not saying it doesn't happen, but I can't see how it could be worked against a voter intent on voting. In our area the churches have vans that pick up 15 people at a time to drop them off at a polling place.
As if you don't know the day is coming, as if you don't know its important and as if you can't plan to make it happen if it matters to you. You literally know the date and how to YEARS in advance. They will also mail it to you at their cost.
Some of this dirt poor areas can't put a polling place every 2 miles but I feel like thats the expectation?

Read up on it. There are lots of ways to suppress the vote. Forcing long waits to vote, arresting and charging specific people with felonies, etc. The idea might not stop a determined voter but it can and will deter those who arent as comitted to voting.
Me personally if I wait more than 30 minutes I am going to be raising some hell. God help me if it's an hour or longer.
