Walker takes no responsibility for the poor offense

But here is the thing, we have had three different hitting coaches in five years, four if you count Fletcher, the roster has turned over nearly 100% and yet it's the same issues that got TP relieved of duties. Major league players that can't put together good at bats. At some point it's about these guys looking in the mirror.

Do you know a site I can find the percentage of time a player looks in the mirror? I bet Heywood mirror looking % is lowest in the league.

I really don't know how much to put on his shoulders. It's not like he has a group of great hitters to mess up.

I remember when we hired him I posted all the stats of every team he had, as the hitting coach, every team was bottom 5 in OBP except for like 1 and they were bottom 7 or 8. They are bottom 10 this year, I think 8th or 9th worst....whether it's coincidence or not, I don't know....but it's certainly alarming. Obviously guys like BJ and Uggla don't help matters. I just think it's time to clean house in Atlanta, outside of Roger.

I'd probably keep TP and put him as manager. Assuming he can answer the simple question, should BJ or Simmons be batting in the second hole. That would be my first question to any manager and anyone who says yes just end the interview right there. I know lineup contruction doesn't make a massive huge difference (like a max of 40 runs a year or something like that) but when you're in a tight race ona team that's pitching based those runs matter a lot.

I'd be fine with keeping TP, don't want him as a manager though....he strikes me as another Fredi. Could be wrong, who knows, hasn't he only gotten one interview in all these years?

Getting demoted hurt his stature. The difference between Fredi and TP to me is TP seemingly has the fire to light under someone's ass when need be. A great example is last year when CJ foolishly slid into 1B or didn't book it or something that got under TP's skin and he got in his face about it.

Fredi would have just given credit to the other team (oh wait, he did)

My favorite part is where Walker says trying to inflate a starters pitch count to get them out of the game is an outdated strategy. Hey Greg, your strategy isn't working, maybe time to reevaluate your position on this.

They have a weird way about going with this strategy then bc they swing at the 4th most pitches in baseball.

I'm old and lazy, but I'd be curious to see how the Braves rank in terms of swinging at pitches out of the strike zone and swinging and missing at pitches within the strike zone. It's just my impression that the opposition simply isn't afraid to make us hit the ball.

7th highest on pitches out of the zone.

Highest percentage of swinging and missing strikes

Whatever it was, CJ did something dumb and TP made sure he knew it. Not just standing on the edge of the dugout thinking if he'd want an Omelette or Migas for breakfast.

TP also quit on his team when he was a player.

Who's going to teach Simmons, Johnson, and Gattis to be patient hitters?

Gattis probably won't be here next year but the point is a good one....it's not all on Walker (But I do think he needs to go). It goes down to our minor league coaches and instructors, along with scouts and Wren and his underlings.

It's not quite game/set/match, but this is a strong indication of what is wrong.

There's a story--perhaps apocryphal--regarding Danny Ainge's short baseball career. A pitcher (I think it was credited as Tippy Martinez) was asked what pitches Ainge had trouble with that doomed his career. Martinez supposedly responded something to the effect "strikes right down the middle" and he didn't know if Ainge had trouble with any other pitches because why mess with a solid strategy.

Are you speaking of the Cincinnati incident?

Yes

"Marvin had a great line after that, too," Yost said. "They asked, 'What'd you think when Terry was walking off?' And Marvin said, 'I thought that Terry thought I was pitching so good I only needed seven guys out there.' "

Please remind us of the Cincy incident, giles. Thanks.

Maddus threw high on someone, I think Sabo or Davis and then the Reds retailiated by hitting Sanders in the back the next inning. Freeman comes out the next inning and throws a pitch to Belcher and TP walks off the field because he was upset that Freeman didn't hit Belcher. The story was Pendleton showered and left the clubhouse completely.

Some people speculated that TP felt the team wasn't backing Deion bc of Deion's couple week hiatus over not getting playing time.

I remember Maddux breaking Barry Larkin's hand with a pitch one game. Don't know if it was that game or not.

All I know Larkin was super-p*ssed after the game and claimed Maddux did it on purpose. His reasoning was that Maddux' control was so good there was no way he would have missed that dramatically with a pitch.

I assume that was Marvin Freeman.
