WAR and something interesting

Ah, JD came in at 8.3 WAR in 2004, while Marcus put up 7.8 in 2003. Embarrassments!

Interestingly/amusingly, WAR says JD was not only the best player on the 2004 Braves but that he lapped the field, in no small part because Giles and Chipper missed a lot of time. Chipper was second on that team with 3.8 WAR.

The early 2000's Braves were incredibly frustrating every October, but they had some of my favorite players. Marcus Giles, Furcal, Estrada, DeRosa, Julio Franco, etc. A lot of players that aren't going to be remembered long term, but were a lot of fun to watch.

One of my very favorite moments as a baseball fan remains the standing ovation Giles received before his first at-bat in this game, when he was riding a streak of base hits in nine straight ABs.

Yeah, I looked it up and realized it after you posted it. Replacement player must have sucked ass that year. He had a great year, but it seems like an anomaly nonetheless.

Half the posters here could probably play LF better than him, but Skates could flat out rake.
