WC or Division - Why is BJ starting?

Man on first with 2 outs. Slow grounder through the middle of the infield, BJ- didn't charge the ball until after Simmons didn't get to it. which allowed the runner to go to third base.

Simpson showed it a few times on replay showing how much he loafed to get the ball, saying that the runner never woulda made it to third if Bonfacio was out there.

On the way in to the dugout, Heyward had a brief conversation with BJ - but it's not clear what he said or even if he was mad. BJ went into the dugout, and Heyward stayed outside of it for a min or two.

It certainly seemed that way to me. Heyward turned away as BJ walked back in the dugout.

I am guessing he said something smart to Jason. Jason needed to cool down and he stayed outside the dugout for a minute.

Smart move from Jason to avoid something that could have happened. On the other hand Jason could have destroyed him and got him out of the lineup. Since that is the only way to get him on the bench apparently.

Yeah, that's exactly how it appeared to me and the guys in the booth as well.

I've got nothing for you, AA.

I've lost a lot of respect for Fredi that he continues to play him (unless he's being ordered to, which I highly doubt), and I probably won't have any left if he plays him after that bull**** last night. I know we'd be throwing away a lot of money, but he has to be released for the good of the team.

I think Fredi is being told to play him.

I would assume by ownership, then. Anyone else needs to be fired now.

I've just noticed a few differences in player utilization issues this year regarding the replacement of underperformers because Fredi was a lot more aggressive in sitting guys last season. Could be for a lot of reasons, but it's only since Gosselin and Bonifacio have been with the team that we've seen much in terms of rotating bench guys in with any regularity.

I don't want to sound like a Fredi apologist, but until he got Bonafacio and Gosselin on the bench, he has not had much to turn to on the bench in the case of under performing starters.

Same guys as last year in Schafer and Pena, who Fredi used quite a bit last year until they both were injured. There really was no excuse to keep running Uggla out there and while Pena is no world-beater, he got a lot more ABs last year when Uggla was playing poorly, but not miserably.

The thing about Doumit is that the two of the three positions he plays (LF, RF) were manned by guys who you need in the line-up every day. Doumit can catch, but he's pretty bad back there. I was in favor of the Doumit trade, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that he just wasn't going to get many ABs. He's a guy who has been used to playing more and it can be tough to make adjustments.

If playing BJ now helps us trade him in the off-season, I still don't like it but will rejoice when he's gone.
