WEDNESDAY MINORS REPORT 5/9/18: What's With All the AM Baseball?

And you'd say Watts is?

He's at least held his own at AA. He's nowhere near the prospect that is Davidson is, and I prefer Clouse, but I just think it's fair to say Davidson and Clouse have not moved the needle up this year so far.

Need to give the keys to Camargo but in all honestly Bautista hasn't looked bad.

Is that wrong to say? I feel dirty now.

I think he'll be solid. High OBP. I still think it's not worth ending the debate on Comargo as a full time player. Even if Riley was our guy it would be nice to trade a controllable 2+ win player if Comargo proved to be that guy.

If Riley plays like he did in AA I could see him up in September. That would be the earliest. It's possible if we magic our way to the post season that he could make that roster as the 3B or just a bench bat. I like him and do not want to rush him. IF the plan is for him to be a starter or fight for a starter spot next year then it would make sense for him to get some firsts out of the way at the end of this year.

If Riley is good enough to make his MLB debut at 21, he is good enough to delay his service clock in his age 22 year.

I may be in the minority, but it certainly feels closer than before. The last two seasons he seemed to have stretches of dominance, and smaller stretches of poor control.

Result today wasn't bad despite the walks...

I feel like he turned the corner some time last year. Walks remain a problem.

couldn't you still do that with a September call up? Call him up. Let him play. Play Comargo at 3B the next year for a month.

If you mean gain an extra year of control, then the easiest way would be waiting two weeks into the 2019 season before calling him up.

You could call him up in September and let him play, and then keep him in the minors for the same length of time plus two weeks in 2019, but that doesn't sound like something you would be interested in doing.

Why in the world would they do that? The Braves are going to be true, legit, bonafide contenders next year. It would be foolish to keep him down for 6 weeks in 2019 because they wanted to "let him play" in 2018.

Now, if the Braves are in the playoff hunt, can't acquire an upgrade at 3B, and Riley is still killing it in AAA...all bets are off. At that point winning takes precedence. The same exact reason having Heyward on the roster opening day was defensible at the time (with no need for hindsight).

But with Machado, Beltre, Mous and possibly Donaldson all likely to be available at the deadline, I have a hard time imagining the Braves won't be able to upgrade 3B at a reasonable cost if required.

Drew Waters activated and leading off for Rome in the first game of the doubleheader.

I’m still hopeful on Touki for sure, but the 4 BB/5 K line today isn’t progress.

He has this weird thing where when he has a “good” game, his peripherals are toilet water, and when he has a “bad” game, his peripherals are great.

Groome to have TJS.

Hopefully Anderson/Wentz/Muller make it!

Wow!!

Might be a smart time to sneak in and offer a package for him. Say Wisler +...we don’t need him for now. They probably need someone closer to the bigs.
