Welcome back Greg Walker!

Braves1976

It's OVER 5,000!
Braves have hired Fred McGriff and former hitting coach Greg Walker as Special Assistants to Baseball Operations. McGriff will attend Spring Training as an instructor and will focus on pro scouting during the regular season. Walker will work with Minor League hitters during both Spring Training and the regular season.

Our kids will be one hopping throws home into a bucket from CF with ease after this move. Brilliant!

Great made up title.

So now we know why Greg Walker didn't just get fired back in Oct. and was given a heads up to step down. This way the Braves are not bringing back someone they'd just fired. :)

That said, if Fredi is ever let go you can bet it will be the same way or similar. Then we'll see him brought back in another role.

Chipper said he's not ready to dedicate that kind of time again just yet - could definitely do worse than having Crime Dog work with the kids and help Seitzer. Never know...if Seitzer could teach Johnson to make more contact, maybe McGriff can help him with lift.

Certainly think bringing Fred in is more about helping the kids in the long run.

Leo Mazzone switched pitching coach jobs with Bruce Dal Canton. So, these sort of moves have happened before. Plus, the results of the Braves offense can't all be laid at his feet. He does have some history of success from his time with the White Sox. This allows him to stay close to home.

Basically, Walker will be throwing batting practice to minor league hitters.

Should've hired Phil Wellman, who is out of a job after 31 years in baseball. Wells can coach hitters.

Randy Ingle was all over the place in the Braves' system during his time on the staff. Snitker has been a big league coach and minor league manager. Like Knucksie says, this happens all the time.

rico,; both Wellman and Ingle could help the minor league managers learn how to argue with umps.

I'm stoked that McGriff is back in the organization. He was one of my favorite players when I was a kid.

Funny you should mention Randy - he lives across the street from my Aunt and Uncle during the offseason, and I've just never had the heart to ask him about "The Incident"!!!

I think the incident you are talking about is on You Tube. Almost as hilarious as Wellman, but Wellman's is the all-time all-time meltdown.

Oh yeah - I've seen it tons of times. Still don't have the heart to ask him about it. LOL.
