That's why its stupid to punt on any season unless you have absolutely no core to build around. You can't do it based upon assumptions about the competition.

I think the punt was based more on the trying to gauge the difference in return between the packages the Braves received in the various trades and what they could have conceivably gotten at the deadline in the event we weren't in contention or in the off-season if J. Upton and Heyward both walked. Things seemed to accelerate in terms of moves after the J. Upton trade and what looked like a normal punt took on the semblance of a quick kick.
