what does a CEO that steps down cause of a Federal corruption investigation get?

goldfly

if my thought dreams could be seen
Jeff Smisek, will be able to travel on free flights in perpetuity, on top of exiting with a cool $21 million in cash and stock.

Yet should he choose to travel by the company car he'll be given access to, Smisek will also get free parking anywhere in downtown Chicago, and at Chicago and Houston airports, as well as a host of other benefits such as health insurance. All perks included, the airline chief executive could snag a severance package worth up to $28.6 million, according to Bloomberg estimates.

I don't know anything about this particular ahole, so I"m speaking in generalities rather than just about him, but you do realize that you can only cancel contracts, declare bankruptcy, close your doors, etc,. to keep from paying one of those damned employee retirement plan's payouts for those lousy "takers", especially if is was negotiated by one of those damned "taker unions", if it's a golden parachute for a CEO it's pretty much legal and binding no matter what.

i'm not saying it isn't legal or anything

just sickening to get when you are a criminal or a failing ceo etc etc

Your envy is ugly...

Why do you care? It's a private company... it's not your money

envy? haha

No, I get that, I was actually referring back to when a company goes belly up to avoid paying the pensions they promised to their workers while they raked in millions in profits, then when it's time to pay those pensions, all of a sudden they're broke? I never hear the other side talk about greed or corruption or breaking their promises, or the law, then

Except that it is. We as the consumer have the right to demand lower salaries for executives if we so choose to do that. Without the consumer the business fails.

The issue is that we as a society victimize the takers as people who rely on welfare, not people who get handouts from corporations. I know executives negotiate severance when they're hired. But there should be a "you ****ed the company" option to void the contract. To me it's common sense. You shouldn't be paying out executives if you can't pay your employees.

You have a right to demand a lower a salary? Where is that right for you?

Your only right is to choose to not give them your business... So again, I ask, what do you care?

Without a good executive team, the business fails. Anyone can go and buy Oreos but not that many people can efficiently and effectively run Nabisco.

You can't put that option in a contract because you can't define what exactly and why the person is getting fired.

Yes
I'm the market (something you claim to love)
Cause I care about a better country as a whole.

Your only right, Mr. Market, is to pull your business. I'm guessing you have done that.

So what are you complaining about?

who do you think you are to tell me "my rights"

just cause you don't like what the market is asking for, doesn't not make it the market or my/our rights

you have to take both sides of the coin to love markets instead of you trying to limit it

If it is your right, you ****ing moron, then you would be able to stop this CEO from getting this compensation.

Since you didn't, then shut the **** up you envious loser

Weird for you to think you can limit my rights of speech etc

Glad you are showing some emotion though. Too bad it's misplaced

"envious loser" hahaha

Good stuff though

Still waiting for you to show me how you have a right to make sure a CEO of a private company gets paid less...

You have a right to want them to... but that's just your rich envy.

I'll ask again, it's not your money - so why do you care?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

rich envy? hahaha yeah, that's it

i answered in post 11 but like usual you just ignore it. "Cause I care about a better country as a whole."

Yeah - you have a right to bitch about it. Good for you.

If it's truly a big deal, then United will lose customers, they will be forced to adapt or they will die.

I suspect you haven't given them any of your business. It's not your money that was given to this guy. If it was, then stop giving them your business. It's really quite simple.

But I look forward to your next meme about CEO pay

your views on the airline market are insane.

there are like 4 airlines in this country really.

i have flown united cause i didn't have any other option before but hey, thank God we deregulated to give customers less choice. great stuff.

I am well aware of the airline market. They've gone bankrupt over and over again because it's nearly impossible to efficiently run the business at a price people can afford. That's why all of the mergers have happened - it was in the best interest of the country.

Airline prices have never been cheaper than they are today.
