What happened to Lindsey Graham??

His words about what would happen to the GOP if they endorsed Trump are going to haunt him.

He's become the current face of hypocrisy.

Nothing
He hasn't changed one bit . He has always been an opportunistic me first dick.

This version of LG is not new, different names, issues and faces-sure
but as predictable as night follows day

Wait. Are you alleging a politician is doing and saying whatever is politically expedient at the moment regardless of whether that conflicts with something he's said in the past? Surely not!

The question striker you and all (R) should be asking is why did Graham flip ?
Not how come, but why.
Same with Paul Ryan, why did he flip?

Expedient politicians don't dive headfirst into 42%+ and over 50% disapproval waters

Don't look at national polls. Look at much more immediate political goals. Would embracing viewpoint X result in greater political influence? Would associating myself with candidate Y increase my support at home?

It's no great mystery. Politicians jump on a bandwagon as long as it's moving them towards their goals. Once that's over, they hop off.

how Trump enhances Graham in SC ?
He won by 10 points in 2014. All he had to do was keep his powder dry

he predicted himself Trump would be a train wreck --- what happened ?
No, why did what happen -- happened ?

There are more things than general election victories. You forget the inquisition that is the threat of a primary challenger. If you're not publicly devout enough to your party's orthodoxy then you could be in a fight with a nutter in your primary.

There's also the horse trading that goes on. Party leadership still controls things like committee assignments and can leverage that. Especially if there's a specific appointment you really want.

Flips like Graham are all par for the course in politics. I'm not excusing Graham in saying this. It's just more of an indictment of the system as a whole.

Graham was susceptible unlike Grassley, Lamar Alexander or any number of (R) Senators ?

Me thinks there is more to this than meets the eye.
Even before his BFF passed Graham started toting , very publicly, the Administrations water.

Why did he flip ?
He had no threats for nomination, he is of the party leadership (voted by his peers) , Graham through tenure and visibility had whatever committee assignment his heart desired
Yeah, flips like Rubio are par for the course, but Graham has been around too long

The fact that Graham has been around so long is precisely why he's more likely to do something like this. Graham isn't one of the raving lunatics voted in by party fringes in recent years. He's a long time politician who knows the game. If he flipped, there's something in the political game at stake for him. Either threat of losing influence or the prospect of gaining more.

Thats the point, he is a raving lunatic whos act plays well in SC but not so much outside of the Bible Belt.

Go rewatch the Clinton Impeachment where he made " his bones"
.

He's no raving lunatic. Nearly everything he says is calculated. He knows exactly how it will play back home. Take his defense of Kavanaugh. It was a brilliant political stroke, won him points among other leaders in his party, and it played well back home. Graham is a politician to his core.
