Which Teams Do We Match Up With?

Ny Daily News writer John Harper suggests Mets should trade Noah Syndergaard for Justin Upton. Alderson evidently coveted Upton when the DBacks were shopping him and he solves the Mets biggest need for a corner OF. You always hate to trade within the division but I'd jump all over that for Syndergaard and a couple lesser pieces. Then extend Heyward and either use Gattis in LF or as trade bait to get a better LF. Teheran, Wood, and Syndergaard would be a heck of a young rotation to build around with Sims on the horizon.

I like the idea but I would try to expand it to bring back Murphy or Lagares. Murphy is a plus defender at 3b and can platoon with Johnson and play other positions when Johnson starts. He is a pending free agent that the Mets don't appear likely to re sign.

Murphy could make a lot of sense to include for both sides because the Mets are still skimping on payroll and Murphy stands to make 7-8M in his final arby eligible season. So dumping his salary would make Upton's easier to take on for them. For the Braves he could be a stopgap at 2B while Peraza gets a little more seasoning and could also play 3B. Good contact hitter too which fills a need.

Huh. That's actually a good idea.

Not sure I would make the proposed trade (see below) but found it at least interesting with all the speculation being thrown around. I wonder if they would take Justin in a similar deal possibly shuffling a few of the mentioned names around. I think if we do put Gattis in the OF getting Jason Castro for at least a year as the starting catcher with CB the backup could make some sense as well.

Astros Receive:
Jason Heyward, OF

Braves Receive:
Brett Oberholtzer, LHP; Domingo Santana, OF; Michael Foltynewicz, RHP; Michael Feliz, RHP; PTBNL (J.D. Davis, 3B)

Word is #Braves pushing Gattis hard. AL teams interested since he could DH and play the field more sparingly

I don't know anything about those prospects, but his logic makes sense. A Heyward/Holliday comparison makes a lot of sense, and that is the type of package (though maybe not the exact players) I would expect the Braves to get for Heyward.

Can confirm report by @Joelsherman1 that #Braves’ Gattis is being pushed aggressively.

I didn't either. Just looked them up. According to milb.com, Santana is their #3, 22 years old, OF, played in AAA in 2014; Foltynewicz is their #4, 23 years old, RHP, AAA and big leagues in 2014; Michael Feliz is their #8, RHP, 21, Low-A in 2014 (Very odd history for Feliz. Signed with the A's at 16. Contract voided due to positive steroid test. Subsequently signed with Astros.); and J.D. Davis is their #20, 3B, Rookie ball and Low A in 2014. Couldn't be traded to us until after June, 2015, draft because he was the Astros' 2014 3rd round pick. We already know about Oberholtzer.

Not advocating moving Heyward, but if we were to trade either Heyward or J. Upton, this is the kind of deal that would make sense and it would be, at least on paper, a decent return.

M's contact v-mart, hanley, tomas, martin. how bout Justin upton (he dropped sea from no-trade list)

I think that proposed Astros deal is horrific. Oberholtzer is a 4th starter at best. Santana has bust written all over him. The rest barely interests me. I guess there is something to be said for taking quantity over quality but I would only make that deal if we went to full rebuilding mode and even then I think we could get a better deal.

It's good to see Seattle is off Justin ' s no trade list. They are in win now mode so they could over pay.

The Blue Jays, Brewers, Cubs and Indians are the four teams on Justin Upton‘s revised no-trade list, FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi reports

Odd list.

Maybe there's some assumptions in there like San Diego not being a realistic option, so no need to include the obvious non-contender that would kill your power numbers.

Very strange list, I wonder how he came up with those teams!
