Lol and what is this based on? The same non-data that makes you think Acuna will maintain a .340 BABIP?

Pujols had 3 season where he stole 14+ bases. He has produced more baserunning value in a single season than Freeman has his entire career.

I don't think there's any doubt Pujols was faster than Freeman during his peak. Well, except you...you doubt it because...reasons.
 
Stolen bases don't equate to speed and vice-versa. Honestly who cares who is faster, slower, steals more bases, or whatever between Pujols 10-12 years ago and Freeman now. Unless there is some speed metric from a decade ago that tracked Albert there isn't a way to definitely say one way or the other.

I look at it this way, if they ran the 60 meter dash instead of the 100 meter dash in the Olympics, Usain Bolt would have had fewer gold medals. Obviously, slow guys with a great first step won't be successful base-stealers, but neither will fast guys with lousy first steps. It's a matter of degrees, but that getting to top speed in a couple of strides is really crucial for successful base-stealing.
 
Pujols may have been faster. I'm not sure. But I was more talking in lines of his body breaking down, etc. Pujols has/had the typical 1B body type. Expected decline into the 30's that happen to most 1B. Freeman seems leaner than most of those. I think that will help him into his 30's.

It's based on the fact that Pujols is currently the slowest player in baseball, even slower than McCann (obviously he's 37 but it's at least a starting point, and this article (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.ml...jols-talent-doubted-before-mlb-draft.amp.html) claims he ran a 7.1 60-yard dash before he was drafted. That is a clearly below-average time, so it's hard to believe he would have become faster after that.

But you have stolen bases. That's cool, too. Nice to see you angry with me for stating an opinion without data to back it up, then offering an opinion without any data to back it up.

Or they don't want to alienate a sulky player with two years remaining on his deal by pulling him from games. The least likely conclusion to draw is they think he's great at defense.

I don't know if Kemp is sulky, but the point you make may contribute to his use pattern.
 
Pujols came up as a natural 3B, he was good at it too. Bigger doesn't equal slower. Young Pujols was a better athlete than Freeman. Yes, he was faster.

Kemp is one of the slowest guys in baseball, and he came up as a terrific athlete. People decline at different rates.

I explained how much more baserunning value Pujols produced. Go ahead and look up the speed of guys that post 5.5 runs of base running value in a single season over the last 3 years. They are all faster than Freeman.

You're wrong, as usual.

- The Braves overall have very slow OFers for their position, even Ender.

- We may be seeing the beginning of Ender's defensive decline, going from 28.3 in 2015/2016 to 27.5 this year.

- Cool to see Albies and Swanson with 65 speed, with Albies verging on a 70 grade.

- I didn't realize Phillips was that slow (45 grade).

- I am interested to see Lane Adams' value when he gets enough max effort events at the MLB level. I'm guessing 70 grade.

- Mallex (29.4) is about 75 on the speed grade.

- Truly 80 grade speed is reserved for Buxton, Hamilton, and maybe Zimmer and Tapia (who I've never heard of).

- Mac and Pujols are even slower than I thought, and would get a 10 grade if it existed.

Lane Adams just got enough sprint events to qualify with a 28.9, becoming the fastest current Brave. That's 70 grade speed as I suspected.

Leg and foot injuries to both Kemp and Pujols have some relevance there. Though it could also be argued that their weight had some bearing on the risk they would suffer those injuries. Pujols has dealt with the plantar fascitis for a long time. I had it briefly and it went away. I guess I'm not a good comp for Pujols.
