Deaths of despair among prime maga demographic groups and the self-reported happiness and mental-health data you are fond of citing are not necessarily inconsistent. One group reports higher levels of angst. The other is more prone to blowing its brains out. Those are the facts. And I'm not arguing against either.

1. Are much more likely to be miserable
2. Are much more likely to be mentally ill
Imagining being the above person living in the hellscape of RDS. Suicide is a mercy
If you have data on the political leanings of suicidal people please share.
Otherwise. I'd imagine a non fraudulent academic would be curious in examining why people of left leaning politics are so miserable and mentally ill.

The deaths of despair is a phenomenon among middle-aged white men with HS educations. If you want to argue this is a group of libs be my guest. Coroners don't collect data on ideology.
It is also a fact there is a wide and widening differential in life expectancy between blue and red states. I think this strongly suggests a wide and widening differential in life expectancy between "conservatives" and "liberals." But the CDC doesn't collect that data along ideological lines. The inference is there to be made.

Just to add a few additional factors that make it likely that the differential in life expectancy breaks along ideological grounds
1) Liberals are less likely to smoke
2) Liberals are less likely to be obese
3) Liberals are more likely to be vaccinated
4) Liberals report higher levels of physical activity
5) Those neurotic liberals who are full of angst are more likely to avail themselves of help for their mental health struggles
6) Liberals are more likely to trust doctors and others who are qualified to provide advice on health and medical care
7) Multiple county level studies link higher Trump vote share to lower life expectancy even after controlling for race, income and urbanization
8) Deaths of despair are concentrated in rural, conservative areas particularly among middle-aged white men with lower educational attainment
