Why McCann to Braves makes little sense

Assuming he can start everyday now. Can't DH in the NL. Fact is he's been a meh hitter since joining the Yankees. Good for a catcher but not good overall. Would need massive salary to make it worth on for a performance sense. PR sense it would put some butts in seats regardless.

Unfortunately, those are the types of upgrades we should be expecting. Instead of Ces, Desmond and Lucroy, we will get Kemp, Mac and some disappointing platoon at 3B. Even if it doesn't result in a good team, at least they will be more fun to watch and root for.

As much as I think Mac should have been a Braves lifer, there is very little reason to bring him back other than to get the band back together with Frenchy and KJ both of whom I expect to be in camp come March.

Like most things bringing Mac back depends on many variables that a lot of people are making assumptions on. We don't know if the 3rd year would be a requirement or not. If he stays he won't get the 3rd year, so he might not demand it to come home. We don't know how much the Yanks would be willing to eat. He cleared waivers and they know now they have limited interest. We don't know what prospects would have to go back. The Folty and Ender statement was removed pretty quick, yet regurgitated as gospel many times now. You don't get two top major league ready young players for a player nobody claims on waivers.

I'd like to get Mac back if we can get him without that 3rd year having to be exercised, if he cost us around $10M a year, and if we were able to trade from our surplus value.
