Why not Nick Franklin?

I know it would save 17ish. I didn't care about the medlen cash because I would rather have Medlen.

But once again you would want Santana over Medlen? Pass. Uggla will be gone within the next 2 years. The braves are giving him 1 more chance. If he sucks now the odds of him just getting cut are real.

Technicaly in Zeet's scenario it would be Santana, Franklin, and 13 million extra cash in 2015 vs. Medlen and Uggla. I'd definitely pull the trigger on that, but I can't see why Seattle would.

Well yeah I'd want Santana and Franklin over Medlen and Uggla and have some more cash to use at the deadline. Of course it would depend on if we could basically sign Santana for about our savings of trading Uggla. That's the harder part.

Franklin is projected to be about a 3 War player and Santana between 2-3 do you think Medlen and uggla will for sure combine for at least 5 WAR? I don't. Though you could make the case that TLS and Medlen can do that though. I personally would rather just start TLS than move for Franklin, again, just making an example of a major league player trade I'd consider.

If they were that high on Franklin, would they have signed Cano? Franklin is a complementary piece. I think Hale could be a 3-4-5 starter, especially with a friendly ballpark. And that would have a lot of value in Seattle right now, as they're holding open tryouts behind Hernandez, Iwamura and Taijuan Walker.

Franklin is a solid 2B prospect, Cano is an MVP Candidate. Imagine if you would we had the opportunity to sign Evan Longoria or Josh Donaldson, and money wasn't a problem, woud you pass on them because we have Chris Johnson? Or if you would, you have Martin Prado, why would you trade for Justin Upton.

Franklin can slide around the IF so they don't have to ditch him.

No, I get that, your point on CJ vs. Longoria. But they like Seager at third. Miller is certainly the favorite at short, there's clearly no job at 2B and they have about 11 1B-DH-LF types (ok, maybe not, but Smoak, Morrison, and Corey Hart...and by next week, Nelson Cruz).

So there's no room at the inn. So turn a good up-and-coming guy who's blocked at 2B for a good up-and-coming pitcher. I'm sure they (and I, and you, apparently) think he's more than a utility guy.

They wouldn't. They'd hang up. But Frank wouldn't ask.

We all know about Evan Longoria (not close to a realistic option) but I would love to have Josh Donaldson in a Braves uniform. I'm a little bit biased because he's an Auburn kid but he finally got a chance to play everyday in the majors in 2013 and had a monster year. He's not great defensively though. Reason why he's bounced around from catcher to 1st base before finally finding a home at 3rd base. But he's also a little on the older side, just turned 28 in December, because it took him a while to get to the majors and get established. So if you got him in a trade you would have him under team control for a while without having to pay him big money you could let him walk and he would be going into his mid 30s.

I watch the A's play a lot. They love Donaldson (and his defense is actually really good). He isn't going anywhere.

Yeah I know he isn't going anywhere unless a team offers up something good for him in a trade. I was just dreaming out loud there for a minute.

Jeez all winter LaStella was going to save us at 2b, now you guys are trading for a 2b. Has LaStella's stock suddenly gone south?

The pitching prospect being thrown about as a possible cost is Rafael Montero, who is a AAA starter that BP rates as a potential #3 starter.

A comparable piece from the Braves organization would be JR Graham, or possibly David Hale plus another piece.

Franklin profiles as a second-division regular at 2B, so I most certainly would NOT give up a potential #3 starter for him. I think Hale by himself would be about the most I'd pay, and that would only happen if Uggla failed and TLS showed he wasn't ready.

I wouldn't mind Franklin, but I'd not give up what they seem to be asking for him. I'd be against trading Hale for him because I really like Hale. Plus I would have concerns about our depth without him. Further, I think I was the first to suggest using Medlen to move Uggla's contract this off-season. But that was with the plan to replace Medlen with someone like Huddy or Burnett in the rotation. Both proven veterans who didn't require contracts of more than two years. Of course that was then and this is now. Plus Santana is looking for a 4 year deal so he'd not be a fit for us either way.
